I thought I'd post some videos of my swing so some of you guys could maybe check it out and give me any tips. I seem to be hitting the ball really well this year, my first round out was a 35, but I'd still like some tips. One thing I noticed was that my left hand is turned over pretty far at address. It feels "normal" to me and I hit the ball pretty straight but if I can change it and keep my ball straight I'd like to. Also some of the videos are slightly angled too because of the camera. Anyways, here you go:

U have to hit a ball. Swing will be different than just hitting air.

i doubt you'd be able to hit a ball like that and keep it in play. your grip is incredibly strong, so unless you're planning not to release the club, then you're going to hook it into one of those great lakes you guys have up there. and if you're not going to release, you'll be pushing it way out right, or worse yet, dare i say it, &^$nking the ball. also, i'd narrow the stance a bit and square up the back foot.

Man, I'll tell you, I saw the video and the first thing that popped into my mind was, "wow, that really looks like Michigan." I look at the guy's location, and lo and behold...

I'm just picking out the bad points here you've got a nice swing overall.

are you hitting shots fat? Because your squatting down at impact. Your straightening your right knee when your bringing the club back. That's making you lose a lot of distance. Try keep your lower body still and only turn the shoulders, if you do it right you'll gain 10-15 yards

where is it strong?

His right hand is well over the grip. I'd nearly call it a weak grip. I can't see his left hand though, I'd say it's ok.

There's almost two different swings there. The backswing has several issues, but the downswing is much better (which obviously is more important). On the backswing, you take the club well inside and around you and flat. The right arm should be bending and the hands/arms moving upward much sooner in the backswing. It does look like you have a (too) strong left handed grip, which makes it easier to execute that "round your body" swing. This leads to a club that is across the line at the top and a closed clubface. But, you make up for a lot of this on the downswing. However, it looks like you start your downswing by turning your shoulders. Bump the hips laterally while dropping the hands vertically to start, then turn.

I went outside and started toying with some things. When I turn my left hand so its more straight, I can feel my backswing going on plane automatically instead of way inside. Its almost like doing that one thing makes it impossible to swing inside. But then when I start the downswing I feel like Im going to hit a big slice. Maybe its psychological because I cant see a ball but thats just how it feels.

Hmm I thought the quality was pretty bad, but maybe its just me. Its just a little digital Nikon Coolpix L20.

Not a bad looking swing at all. I'd work on widening your takeaway. As previously mentioned, you are well inside the ideal plane for your take away, and as a result the club is crossing the target line at the top. When you are at the range, work on your take away by laying a club 2-3 feet behind ball, in line with the target. Try to start your swing along this line... it will feel awful at first, but it will teach you to take the club away in a wider arch, which will help generate clubhead speed as well as get your hands higher at the top.

Good luck!

It's hard to say - my imaginary swing (hitting an imaginary ball) is tour quality. When there's a ball in the picture my brain goes mushy and I swing like a rabid gorilla.

This is exactly what happens when I do what I mentioned before. It almost feels like when I turn my left hand straigter, it makes it hard to cock the wrists at an angle towards myself and my swing automatically goes out straighter

    • A strong grip cups the wrist (lead) and then it wants to flatten through impact, something I used to be able to avoid to keep it from going left and protecting my forearm (the main premise of my set up). Longer the club, harder it is becoming. Either way, yes, I need to transition to gripping it open.
    • Why don't you grip it "open" so you can return your hand to the place where you're comfortable/not sore, but the ball won't go left? It's effectively weaker… without actually "being" weaker?
    • Day 47 - 2024-11-16 Light backswing work with about 3 or 4 rehearsals for every ball hit. Only about ten minutes while waiting for a potential member to show up (he was 25 minutes late). 😛
    • Idk but I would have to imagine that a putter that is aimed where you think it's aimed would be the most important aspect of a putter
