For some reason my chipping/pitching grip is different than my regular swing grip. I don't know when I started doing it, but my chipping grip is the same as my putting grip which is just a standard 10 finger baseball grip. I use this for anything around the green out to 40 yards. I tried to start out this year by chipping with my interlocking (normal??) swing grip. It wasn't comfortable and I don't get the feel for the touchy shots this way. I switched back to my putting grip. I've got the feel back and am chipping and pitching better than ever.

Anyone else use a different grip for chippping than your standard swing grip?

I used to employ an inter-locking grip for putting and chipping, but an overlapping grip for everything else. I'm now using the overlap for everything except putting (which is a kind of claw grip). To be honest, I felt more comfortable with the interlock for chipping, but I just got into the habit of overlapping (same as full shots).

No. Same grip for every full length club, slightly different with putter.

For chipping and putting, I use an interlocking grip. My chip shot is pretty much the same as my putting stroke, except I use my SW instead of the putter and play the ball a little back in my stance due to the bounce on my wedge. The interlocking grip helps me keep my hands together and limits the wrist bend (more mentally than physically). Otherwise I'm a very handsy player with my pitch shots.

Whenever you change a fundamental like the grip, it's natural that it won't feel comfortable right away. If you're comfortable with your current method, I'd keep using it, but I wouldn't discount any new methods. I'm looking to add a few new shots to my chipping and pitching game just so I have more options.

Pitching = regular grip (vardon/overlap)
Chipping = depends on the length - typically a putting grip (reverse overlap)

It seems I change chipping and putting grips every month. Heck, I used to change my full shot grip a couple times a year. I like to keep the ball guessing... But for now:

Full Shots = Interlock
Chipping = "Traditional" putting grip (reverse overlap)
Putting = Cross-handed (this one can change throughout the round... ha)

I use the reverse overlap for chipping (identical to my putting grip). I am not sure why but I really like it. I will use my conventional grip if I need more height or speed through the ball. I have played around with this quite a bit and for me I have the most confidence with this style and little wrist.

I have the same grip on all my clubs. But I am thinking about changing my grip when I putt. I used to be real good putting but I lost my touch. So I may change grips to see if that helps.

    • A strong grip cups the wrist (lead) and then it wants to flatten through impact, something I used to be able to avoid to keep it from going left and protecting my forearm (the main premise of my set up). Longer the club, harder it is becoming. Either way, yes, I need to transition to gripping it open.
    • Why don't you grip it "open" so you can return your hand to the place where you're comfortable/not sore, but the ball won't go left? It's effectively weaker… without actually "being" weaker?

    • Idk but I would have to imagine that a putter that is aimed where you think it's aimed would be the most important aspect of a putter
