I know it is essential to be fitted for irons, and hybrids. Especially for shaft length, where I need 1+" longer. Then there's the usual lie angle, shaft flex/kickpoint, etc. And for driver, finding the correct one for me, correct shaft again, loft, etc. But what about fairway woods? Does shaft length come into play on, say, a 3 wood? Since it is is a different swing and most of the time being hit teed up. There is really only 1 loft, unless it's a strong 3 wood. I will be getting fit for irons soon. But to save money on fitting costs, and after reading this site's reviews of the two new Ping 3 woods, I might simply order one online. I measured my hand and fingers and am a "Ping" standard grip, although for my irons I am one size smaller. Besides, I feel my irons are most important and therefore should be fit for them, especially for the short game. Unless, even for a 3 wood, I should try different shafts, as I would for a driver. Help.

3 wood range from 13-15.5.... Depends on how much you actually use ur 3w.... If you use it mostly off the tee match the shaft to the driver shaft you find to your liking, if you use it off the ground you may want something with a little higher launch.... tough questions for us to comment on without seeing your golf swing or your game

I've been fitted a few times for clubs. Fitters have said +1"--+1.25" on wedges and irons but stock on woods.

They said many of the current woods are overlength off the rack.

Hello,

In a clubfitting situation, the person doing the fitting should include any clubs that you are purchasing or that you feel need to be checked. This should all be part of the fitting cost. Secondly, having the proper length 3 wood is just as important as the right length driver or set of irons. If you don't have the fitter determine what the correct length is for your 3 wood, how can you expect to hit that club to the best of your ability consistently? I am a clubmaker/ clubfitter. When I do a fitting, I check the customer's clubs for the proper length, lie, loft, shaft flex, shaft kickpoint, swingweight, grip size, etc. If the person doing your fitting won't include all these things within the fitting charge, take a walk and find a clubfitter who will.

Good luck,
Jay
