Just curious on what others may think....

I have a driver SS of about 100mph. Not a lot of draw....but a bit. I hit my irons pretty flush at about a 88MPH SS. I don't really 'work the ball' much at all....pretty straight. I hit the iron about normal height....maybe a bit lower...which I actually like. I am HORRIBLE at putting and decent around the greens chipping. I want a ball with some good feel around the green mut not sacrifice my distance too much as I only hit my driver about 250 avg and 5i 180 avg. There is a fair amount of wind at my home course but not a ton. I currently play a Maxfli Black Max which I like but would like some suggestions on what others may think. I do not want to spend the cash on Prov's or anything around that. Trying to keep it around $25 doz.

Thanks in advance!

Nike Vapors and Callaway HX Bites are Great all around 3 piece balls for $30. I play these during practice rounds or when i dont feel like using my ProV1s. Honestly, I can barely feel the difference. ProV1 is ever so slightly softer when putting, and it spins a tad more with full wedge shots. The Vapors might actually get a little more distance.

A lot of people love the TopFlite Gamer too although i've never played it, i've heard great things about it. It's also cheaper too, around $20 i believe.

If your swinging the club so fast how come your hitting it so short?

Honestly Pro V's are the only golf balls that are any good nothing else compares.
Have a look at lostgolfballs.com "1 hit wonder" Pro V's are only 29 dollars a dozen (there'll be a bit of a P&P; charge so it's better to buy in bulk)

The Srixon AD333 is a great ball. Good distance, good feel and spin. It also launches pretty high too. I'm going to give the Bridgestone E5 a shot when I've finished my Zstar x balls, i'm quite intrigued by urethane covered 2 piece ball.

Thanks for the reply's guys! I think I'm going to give the Bridgestone E5's, Taylormade TPBlacks and some Nike Tour D's that are pretty cheep right now on the Bay.

As for my distance..... I'm only 5' 8 and about 150 lbs..... My distance is increasing apparently. WEnt out to the range this afternoon with my new driver and irons and I was putting the drives out there at about 265 and my 7i at about 170 and the 5i at about 190. Doesn't seem to make sense with the irons....I have forged MP57's now coming from Taylormade LCG irons. The TM's have a stronger loft than the Mizzies by almost 2degree per club! Maybe it's all of that ummmmmm extra 'muscle' I put on over the Winter.....

Currently I'm playing out my supply of Back Maxs----good spin on approach and green range but some loss of distance due to ballooning.

I'm switching to TM Red or Black TM LDP. Good balls. which one is my gamer will be decided in the warmth of summer.

You are pretty much like me. Was playing to around a 13 handicap last fall before I stopped playing. 5' 8" 145 lbs and about a 100 mph SS hitting it around 250 yards. I use Wilson Staff Zips because I got them for cheap but I prefer Pro V1's for putting and chipping. For $30/dozen you can buy Pro V1 *practice* balls. Can't go wrong with that. Try the Topflite Gamers if you want some more distance on your drives. I don't use those because I don't like how it comes off my putter. Good luck finding a ball for your game while I find my game.

Hitting it 250 yards on average is right around what it should be for 100 mph swing speed. Many golf balls compare with the Pro V1, its a personal preference for the most part.

I can recommend the Top Flite Gamer V2. It pretty much fits your specifications. It has both good distance and good feel around the green and is only $20/dozen. It's 3-piece too. But honestly, I think the thing to do is to just grab a sleeve of a few different kinds of balls, play a few holes with each, and see what works out the best for you. Hope I helped.

    • Had to correct the distance - should have read 5,400 not 5,500  yds.
    • Had to report this one - played Minnesott again today with my son.  We played behind the Friday Men's group and had a decently paced round.  My round started off par-par-bogie.  I was feeling good to be +1 through three.  Played the next two par - par and then disaster hits - well I thought it may be the unravelling of +1 through five.  Tee shot on six is a hard pull hook into the ditch separating four and six.  I know the ball is lost and re-tee - hitting three off the tee on this par five.  Long story short - what should have been at worst a bogie became a triple 8.  Now I'm +4 through six holes.  Get a solid par on seven (which I celebrated as a solid recovery hole).  Eight is a birdie and I'm back to three over.  Nine, a par 3 over water, finishes par for a 39 front.   We roll to the back to where I birdie ten (the toughest hole on the back) to be -1 after the first hole on the back, +2 for the round.  Par eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen and fifteen - that was an in the zone moment.  Have to note that fourteen - the second par 3 on the back - I hit the tee shot just short right of the flag.  Easy pitch with the 56 should put me close for a tap in par.  It does not happen - as I duff the pitch to about 3yds closer.  I reset and this time I nip it nicely only to see it land and slowly roll to the cup and drop in for a chip-in par save ( a first).   We get to sixteen and I am thinking this could be a really good round.  It's also a par 5 and I hit a solid tee shot.  I'm about 220 from the center of the green and figure I can layup with the 3w as there is a nice landing area in front of the green and it would play nicely into the typical distance I hit this club.  I'm sitting about 50 yds from the flag to the right hand side.  I overcook the 56 and see the ball bounce off the back of the turtle green.  I hit an easy 56 again to see the ball roll to the other side of the green.  Long story it became a 3putt double.  Now I am +4 through sixteen.  The last two holes are solid pars - one an up and down, the other a GIR two putt. Finished the back 1 over at 37.  Total score is a 76!  A new personal best.  Best "all around" play through the bag to date.
    • Day 562, May 17, 2024 Spent a LOT of time on GEARS stuff today, so while waiting for imports, exports, and all manner of things, I did some rehearsals in the mirror and camera in my basement.
    • Day 16 (17 May 24) - Plans to play a local course with a good friend fell through, got with my son to play Minnesott.  Turned out to be a great day of golf - as we were playing behind the Friday Men's group, pace was steady but not rushed or dreadfully slow.  Had a solid day of ball striking - managing 11 of 14 fairways hit, 8 GIR and 5 nGIR, 27 putts (including a hole out chip in from just off the green to save par with the 56deg wedge).  Shot a new personal best of 76 (39 front / 37 back) from the gold tees (just over 5,500 yds).   Was a good day and my son had a decent day for him as well with an 88.
    • Day 312: Chipped for a bit indoors off my mat. Working on good contact and direction.
