A few Q's about grips

I'm considering getting my clubs regripped and I have a few questions. First off, if you have had your clubs regripped, how much difference does it make to you? And second, what grip would you recommend? I have heard that the Golf Pride ones are good, but I'm not too clear on that. And third, about how long would it take to get maybe 10 clubs regripped? Thanks in advance.

If you ask the question, then you are thinking about it, which means they probably should be changed IMHO. Grips slowly loose their grip over time. You don't really notice how bad they have gotten because they sorta sneak up on you. Depending on how bad yours have gotten it can make a HUGE difference.

Like anything get your hands on some to hold/try. But Golf Pride Tour has some great options. Roger Dunn here in Southern California will get a set done in less than a half hour. (of course you should wait a day to play them)

Everyone has different taste in what thier hands like to feel on the club, So go see if you cant try alot out at a repair shop or somewhere like Golf Galaxy. There are a few grips that I have loved to use, Star grips are made in the USA, last forever and are guarented to be perfectly round. They are affordable at $4-5 per grip and one of the easiest to put on YOURSELF. I like to use leather grips from Gripmaster, there is no other feeling like them, but they are expensive to purchase $10-16 per grip. They never wear out, and they reduce shock and since a golf pride grip can run $7-10 these Gripmasters are not such a big stretch. They arent grips you want to do yourself unless you have experience...they arent real hard but if you mess one up it feels worse. The actual act of putting on a set of grips is probably 30 minutes or less. I regrip all my own clubs and have done so for years..it isnt too hard and lets you try tons of stuff you may not have tried before.

I regrip all my own and typically use Lamkin Crossline midsize grips. Last a long time and have very good feel, and they're only $3 a grip. The cost makes a big difference when you're redoing a whole set. If you're only doing one or two clubs, the cost of more expensive (not necessarily nicer) grips doesn't add up as much.

Grips are important because it's the only place where your body actually touches the club. New grips that you like will certainly make a difference in your game. You won't have to grip the club as tightly, allowing a proper swing. On top of that, there is a mental aspect IMO that goes along with new grips. I recommend the grip that you find most comfortable. As for my favorites, it's Lamkin Crosslines on my irons, Golf Pride New Decade Multicompound on my wedges, and I haven't found a favorite for my driver and 3W yet. Golf Pride is probably the number 1 grip on Tour (and possibly in the consumer sector as well), but I haven't been watching their ads lately. Anyway, they are quality grips, but you should definitely try before you buy. Also, read some reviews on durability. For example, my personal experience has shown me that Crosslines last longer than Golf Pride Tour Velvets. Many reviews online agree with this. Just check some durability issues out so you don't have to regrip too many times.

First,

Wash your grips with soap and water, or wipe them down with a rag that has some alcohol on it, if playing Winn grips. See if that accomplishes what you are looking for. The difference might be amazing, and might be worth a couple of strokes a round.

I recently regripped. I noticed a considerable difference, but this was more due to sizing change as well. If you are handy, you can do it yourself. It will take about an hour. If you have a small air compress with a tank, search ebay for the air gripper. It makes installing the grips fast and easy. And if they have been recently installed, they can be removed easily as well.

I regripped my clubs and used Sharpro grips. They own the patent for the dual compound that Golf Pride and others use. I am pleased with them for the most part. I am dissappointed that they didn't make thiese grips in jumbo size. I have 6 wraps of tape underneath to build them up, and they are still a little too small. My hands stretch a 2xl glove though. Another problem to consider is moisture. My hands sweat big time in the Florida summer. I will probably be going to a full cord Jumbo from Lamkin when it get's really hot.

I do agree that it's worthwhile to take the trip to the store, and try out different grips.

Edit...I wanted to add that some stores might do it while you wait, but I bet most will keep the clubs overnight. Ask them.

When ordering my new irons from TM, I had the chance to choose from a wide selection of grips. Ended up choosing GP's New Decade grips and I absolutely love them. After playing with them a little, I switched to New Decade on the rest of clubs (sans putter). Made a big difference to me.

I'll repeat what others have said. You should definitely try before you buy. For me, trying them made my decision easy since I felt that the New Decades stood above the rest.

It's a good idea to clean them first to make sure, but I agree with BonoVox: if you have to ask, the answer is probably yes. And I bet that you'll feel better about getting new grips than stretching the life on your current ones.

I usually do this and then ask a specific question, if i cant find the answer

personally: I have been using the Golf Pride MultiCompound New Decades (or GP MC ND's) for years and loved them
after some reading in grips, I am trying out some new ones this year - Tacki Mac Itomic - white
they are kind of a knock off the Iomic Sticky grips (I know very similar name), but have heard they actually perform better and way less than half the price
the Tacki Mac's are only like $50 for 13 and the Iomic Stickery are close to $200!!!
