Wow did it get ugly out there for me today. Took the day off and went with my pops to the range/par 3 course that we love playing at. Sure, it was really soggy, but thats no excuse. My swing was flat out horrible i.e. Hosel Rocket City. However, on the plus side, despite how angered and embarassed and bitter I was deep inside, I kept it internalized and managed it well.

Sure, I haven't gotten much time to get out and practice this year, so you reap what you sow, but it's annoying that I didn't start hitting the ball well until maybe hole 17 or so. We went around the course three times.

But boy did I stink it up today big time. My plan to kick off the season this weekend is turning into a "go back to the range on Saturday" type of a plan now.

Feel free to console me or better yet, vent your latest crappy round/practice session.

PS- Whoops. I guess the Grill Room and Sports spots were switched recently. Admins, could you do me a favor and move this to the Grill Room please? Thank you.

That stinks and I know the feeling. I always have big plans when I'm going to play. One of my goals this year is to stay more even keel and play the round as it comes to me rather than getting frustrated and let my emotions dictate how I perform - this almost always ends badly. Tomorrow morning I'm playing my first official round of the year. While I'm hoping to do well, I'm trying hard to manage my own expectations and just play one shot at a time. We'll see how it turns out!

Good luck on your next round!

Sorry to hear about your round Jetfan. I had a pretty ugly front-9 myself today. Same old story...doing something at the range that worked great, but then flopped on the course. I'm starting to think I'd play better if I never set foot on a driving range again. Anyway, turned my brain off for the back-9 and played well.

Good to hear you didn't flip out and break clubs, or say something rude to your father. Play well next time.

I have never been able to play well at par 3 courses. It's all mental for sure but can't figure out why. The only thing I can truly guess is the par 3 I play at has really narrow "fairways" so I feel like I need to make the perfect swing off the tee.

If anything, take away from it that you got to spend time with your dad. My dad never played and when he finally showed some interest, cancer took over. Anyway, don't worry about the range, just go kick off the season how you envisioned it and see what happens. Davis Love III shot 80 today. He'll be back tomorrow, so will you :)

And remember, the year is just starting :)

One week ago to the day, I shot the worst round I have in over a year, since I got back into golf. It took that round to get me back on the range, and to get a couple lessons. I have played twice this week, and shot my best 2 rounds ever, an 42 on 9 holes, and an 87 today.

Sometimes it takes a horrible, blow up round to bring you back to where you need to be.

I feel your pain. Check out this thread I started last week:

This week was Jekyll & Hyde at the same course (45 + 50 = 95) although better, but my swing is still amiss for some reason after two really steady rounds last month. Won't be able to play for a few weeks due to family vacation & work -- i'm thinking the layoff is exactly what i need!

Remember this post.... post #4 I was going to go in the way of being a Jet fan since I'm still bitter.....but friendly ribbing doesn't usually come across well over the Net and I'm trying to funny and not an @ss.

I did the same thing yesterday! I've been working on my woods since I'm fairly consistent with Irons, Wedges and putter. But I was hitting the Driver better than ever BUT my Irons and wedges were horrible! I was shanking 60% of my irons. I've never shanked more than once or twice a year. Oh, I was steaming mad. I did my best to keep my cool and will be working on those today and tomorrow.

It's tough to get over a bad round, especially when you have such positive thoughts before that first tee shot. It happens and try not letting it get to you.
