Hey guys im thinking of going back to ping irons from my mizuno mx200's for a bit more forgiveness! I have previously had some g10s and found them good apart from a major fault that i was losing distance with them! Since then the G15 range is out and im sure they play the same as the G10's did! But i dont think im good enough a player to play with i10's or i15's! Can anyone recommend any ping iron sets new or old that might be suitable for my handicap of 14!!??

many thanks

I love my i10's. I was playing Wilson Staff Di7's, a super game improvement club, and the local Ping fitter recommended I go with the i10's. I was hitting them there just as good as the g10's so I bought them and surprisingly I've found the i10's to be more forgiving than the Di7's. That iron purchase has easily been the best money I've spent.

I tried the G15 and i15 this morning for the first time. Wasn't too impressed with the G15, despite liking the G10. I mostly hit everything fat and the oversized clubhead seemed to make the ball appear smaller than it really is. So I gave the i15s a crack and was thoroughly impressed with them. To be honest, I don't think a person should restrict their choice of equipment because of generic guidelines about what is suitable for a given handicap range. Admittedly I only tried the 6-iron, but I really didn't find it all that difficult to play decent shots with (and I'm stuck with a 28 index at the moment!) In short, be willing to try something you might not have given much consideration to and you might be pleasantly surprised.

Thanks for feedback guys!! id rather stick with my mizunos than go back to g10's or g15's but might take your advice and give the i15's a look!! It does say g15's are super game improvement irons and i15's are for the skilled golfer but not sure i can class myself as that!! im surprised ping havent developed an iron set for the mid handicapper!!

I guess it depends on the individual strengths and weaknesses of a person's skill-set. I've seen mid-handicappers who's default shot is a huge slice that starts so far off target that it can only boomerang back into the middle of the fairway... then they inevitably average two putts for a good score! Unless your iron play is (consistently) poor, do you really need "Super Game Improvement" clubs? In my experience, not even a brick-on-a-stick... I mean Big Bertha, can save a dire swing!

Speaking from my experience with my i10s, i thought at first they were too good for me. But the last few times i have played with them, i have started to appreciate how forgiving they are. Their topline is nowhere near as thin as i first realised. They are great irons that you can pick up for a low price, and they are much more forgiving than you expect them to be.

Mate I play i15's and am a 17 handicapper (last 2 rounds 89/88 Par 70 Championship Courses) I switched from the G10's to i15's in October, have played around 8 rounds and have settled into them really well with hardly any issues. I know they say "players iron" but they still have enough forgiveness for me, try them :)

I just purchased S57's yesterday. I hit the i15's and the G15's. And it was no comparison to me. Im currently a 15 hc. But these irons are awesome. i have hit balls 2 days in a row now. And they are sweet. I personally wanted a club with a thin top line. And they just felt real solid. So if you can you should give them a try!! Worked for me and ill have these for a long time!!!

i tried the callaway X forged and the Nike VR Split cavities and I could hit them well despite my Hcap

mazza78 - I noticed you went to the i15s. I'm curious how you would compare them to the 200s. I'm currently trading in some 52s for some more forgiveness and was considering both. I golf in the 90s due to my driving incompetence (just picked up a Cobra ZL to help remedy that!).

Thx!

My dad just got a set of taylormade Burner Irons and he loves them! I hit one, not my type of club, to much offset for me. But they are very nice clubs.

I dont see how G10s would be more forgiving than MX-200s.

G5s, G15s ........... if you need forgiveness go with the G5s or G15 , the G15s feel much better than the G10s did to me, that's why I'm playing them and will continue to play them until the new ping anser forged irons are available (waiting now to see if I can get an order filled in Japan), the G15s have so much forgiveness it's crazy, I lined up two balls with a 9i and hit both at the same time, each ball went 100 yards and pretty straight, my kid got a kick outta that shot, hope that helps

Good luck with that. From what I understand, Ping has no plans to offer those clubs here in the states and getting them from Japan could turn into a fiasco. Ive bought some Japanese market golf stuff before and the shipping can be a headache.

More than likely it's your swing that needs work. Which is the case 9 times out of 10. What kind of shaft do you have? Is it too stiff maybe? I've got the MX-200's and I absolutely love them. Honestly, I don't know how people can play with some of these mega bulky "super game improvement" irons. I think Mizuno got it right with the 200's as far as game improvement and feel.
