First things first, my home course is fairly easy, and pretty short, and from the back you can play driver/8 iron all day. Today we had practice in preparation for pre-district this Thursday. Well, our coaches went out with the girls because they need a playoff to decide who will go play and they left us boys alone. So, being bored, I figured we go play as well......using only 5 iron, 9 iron, and of course a putter. The 5 of us took off and played 9 holes using the before mentioned clubs, and we played surprisingly well. Turned out the idea of messing around turned out to help us with our creativity and "feel" around the course. I fired a 2 under 33. It was pretty fun and we're hoping the coaches will take the girls out again so we can play again.

Anyone else attempt something similar?

Yes, my crew and I have devised a game to play at the local par 3 course. Using only 2 wedges and a putter we're going around the course. THe first time I did it I was amazed I could actually hit a PW 135 yards and be on line with the pin. Plus its fun.

It ain't bragging if you can do it.

I did this once last year when everything but 2 hybrids, my gap/sand wedge, and putter were all being regripped, so I had a few more clubs but still only shot 3 over (38) from the reds for fun :P

i shot par on a par 5, par 4, and finished with a 180yd par 3 with nothing but my titleist driver. A buddy and I had just finished 9 (playing twilight) and it was still light so we felt like playing a couple holes. I played the first par 5 with just the driver, par it. PLaye the next par 4 with just the driver, par it. Stick a shot 7' from the pin with a driver and missed the putt.. i then tried to tiger woods the ball, hit the hosle and snapped the club head off.. i was so pissed at how stupid i was. really ruined a fun 3 holes with my retardedness...

Reminded me about a round i played 3 years ago..........this guy at my work talked trash to me for about a month knowing i was a decent golfer.......i told him i would take three clubs and beat him (3 iron, pitching wedge, putter). The course was a par 35......he shot 42 which i didnt know he had that in him, but i chipped in on the 9th hole to shoot 39 with a ob on the 8th hole....took his twenty and bought us a buck of beers

    • Best drive I've ever hit: I will not be answering any questions about the rest of the hole. Or the round, for that matter.
    • I tried hybrids way back when TaylorMade introduced the copper orange Firesole Rescue, the clubhead having been made of titanium which was still relatively new even in drivers back then. I couldn't hit it well at all, and while the success of hybrids suggests that the modern ones must be quite good,  I'm perfectly happy with the 5, 7, and 9-woods.  Early ones of mine were Top Flite Intimidator 400s made by Spalding... and also made of titanium, now that I think of it.  I still have them in my basement. I do bag a driving iron, but it's a one-trick-pony that never sees fairway use.
    • The last time I played Maxfli balls, Dunlop was still making them. How long ago was that? Mostly, though, I used to play Top Flites (original 336 dimple model) when Spalding was still making them. Now I play the Pro V1x. Last time that I ordered some, Titleist was still making them. Let's see how long that lasts.
    • Once, on a course in Middleton, Massachusetts that I used to love but has since closed down,  I hit the wrong half of a huge, UK style double green.  Then I made the hundred foot putt.  Tough to  forget that one.
    • No. But if I can still play next year, I'll almost certainly be even worse. That's the reality of not being young.🙁
