Hi guys,
Looking to improve on my game, get a softer feeling iron with less offset and not such a big clumsy looking club head. Went to my local golf shop...actually just got back. Took out the MX200 and MX300 with the stiff flex shaft. Both felt super solid and very soft (I like:)). OK so I currently have G10 3-SW Blue dot stiff flex and these Mizunos really are more appealing to the eye standing over the ball. Both 6 irons
MX 200 if anything...hit a hair higher which i like, hit a lot of straight to push/cuts, not really any draws...only a few mishits but I was in a hurry at the range.
MX 300...a little lower flight, these tended to work a little more, hit some draws which I'd like to hit more of, had a even softer feel from what I could tell than the MX200
MX 200 are 87 a club MX300 are 100 a club...club/shaft fitting free if I purchase from them so they'd order from Mizuno the correct shaft, lie angle bent to what I need, correct length, and correct grip size...club fitting is something I'd never had done so this will be nice to have a set of irons fit to ME!

They are offering me 300 trade in on my Pings and 25 bux for a worn out old vokey wedge I have laying around so after trade in I was looking at $429 out the door for the MX300 with my trade 4-PW fit to me brand new OR $334 out the door for the MX200 4-PW fit to me

The guy there had a set of his own that he let me borrow 4-PW they are bend to his standards and are +1/2" so I'm going to go out in the morning and play 9 holes with those and just choke down 1/2 inch or so. Looking forward to seeing how these play on the course...I also grabbed the MX200 demo 6 iron to bring with me and maybe get some more comparison but as of now I'm completely torn...from a looks standpoint the MX300 with less offset look better and slightly smaller clubhead.

Any thoughts for me...im a 12-15 handicap depending on the day (most of my high rounds are due to my errant putting ) I'm 5'9 26 years old and looking to somethign to improve my game/grow into.

Thanks guys
Kurt

Let me make your decision for you.......Get the 300's and do not look back!!!! They are great clubs. The 200's may be a bit more forgiving....but the 300's will give you more feedback and almost ell you what you did wrong. They are the step before 'players irons' and I think they will give you a better oppotunity to 'grow into' them. As for the lower ballflight....what shaft was in them? I'm guessing the Dynamic Golds?? If so....they tend to fly a little lower. you may want to try the Proj X5.5's.

Good luck and let us know how happy you are once you do the right thing and choose the 300's!!

BTW.....$429 out the door is a crazy good price......

Thanks...as for 429 keep in mind thats with trade in on my G10 3-SW...as of now I'm leaning toward them...do you think the 5.5 proj shafts are more money?

My best advice (other than to get the 300's..HAHA) is to follow whatever the shaft optimizer says. Believe it or not...that funky little thing is dead on. It will give you 3 suggestions. With me it said 1) Dynamic Gold s300 2) Project X5.5's 3) Nippon. I went with its #1 choice, the Dynamic Gold, and I can't imagine playing another shaft in my MP57's.

BTW.... you may be able to get more money on those G10's if you sell them privately. Those are nice clubs that people may want. If you sold them at another site that has WRX in the title for $300...they'd last about 4.5 seconds.....

I dont have much experience with the MX-200s, but am very familiar with the MX-300s. I love them. They're in constant rotation with my Nike VRs. You can see my review of them here: http://thesandtrap.com/review/mizuno_mx-300_iron_review . In short, they pretty much kick ass.

Been doing some more searching...looks like on Ebay I can get a set of MX300s brand new for ~500 bux and if I supply the specs they can have my loft lie and all that jazz...might just see how much my local golf shop would charge to fit me using their equipment and shaft optimizer and give ebay stores the specs and save prob 150 bux plus! Anybody have experience doing this? I just dont want to do this and some joker on ebay telling me that theyre now fit to my specs and just sending me off the shelf standard length lie loft shaft stuff and me not know any better...what to do guys? This way...sell my G10s and only be out around 250

Not to make your decision any tougher, but have you tried the MP 52s or 58s? I ask because I was also looking at the mx-300s but hit the 52s and 58s today. As I just posted a few minutes ago, I was blown away with how well I hit them. If I can get the money together I will definitely be buying one of the two, or a mix. Just something to think about...

As far as your question goes, I liked the mx-300s when I demo'd the 6 iron I hit it pretty well. If you plan to have this set for a long time and will be playing a lot, I think you should give the other two sets a look. Good luck!

Tough call man. If your local golf shop spent a lot of time with you and by the sounds of it....they really did....I would have a problem if I were in your shoes to just use them, then take what they taught you and bought them from the Bay. If it were a big chain like Dicks or something....I'd have no problem using them HAHA!! Maybe just tell them what you're thinking and they might cut you a deal....maybe meet you in the middle or something. You may pay more up front....but those clubs will have to be checked for lie every year....they may do that for nothing since you bought it from them too. Sometimes $150 now.....won't look like that much in 2 years... plus you have the peace of mind knowing theyre covered locally...as opposed to some dude you'll NEVER see or talk to. They won't give a &^% about you right after you pay..... something to think about.

so the thing about being covered locally...I'm moving to Okinawa Japan in 6 weeks and I'll be there for 3 years

WOW just got off the phone with a friend in Conn. advises me there is a 35% markup on these at all retailers and he'd sell the MX300s to me for $65 a club vs $100 for a military discount. Gonna get 4-PW $455 and the MP-630 20 degree hybrid for $110 new ($199 retail) Helluva deal for all that for $565 total and would ship direct from Mizuno to me...now I just gotta ask my local shop how much they would charge to fit me to a set as I have no problem paying them for their work but being I dont have to pay shipping or tax for these and get the 35% off im saving myself $245 just on the irons...be dumb not to do this! Off to the course to hit 9 to see how these MX300s feel out there

NICE!! That's a great deal man! Good luck out there and let us know your impressions. I agree about getting them fit at that place. SHouldn't be too much money and you'll know which shaft will work best for you too.

just got back played 18...real windy out...putting was horrid lots of 3 putts and yes 1 4 putt out of nowhere...complete 180 from last time out...putting was good. Irons...the shorter irons hit great, nice and high landed soft...hit a few good longer irons they strayed a bit...but the solid clubs (lower irons) that dont have the cavity back on the mx300 sure felt soft coming off the face...I would need to get some range time in on the set...kind of want to try the MP series as you guys are saying about the MP52s being not too bad to hit...but fairly certain I want the MX300s...unless you guys stray me to try the MP series. Iron play was my strong point today for sure hit some nice high 7 irons that landed softly and the shorter the club the softer they feel and fly even nicer. I took em back and asked how much they charge to fit...last time i was there they mentioned it took 30 minutes to fit and do the shaft optimizer...holy crap they want 75 bux for 30 min of work...im going to call around and check other places on charges to fit mizuno clubs and buy from my guy up in Conn. Any words or wisdom or advice?

Would they deduct the $75 from the price of new shafts, or anything else? Hey, I just got fitted for and bought the Mizzie MX-200s. Over an hour session, hitting balls on the launch monitor, attached cables(whatever) to the shaft and my wrist to determine the shaft I need, then trying various shafts, as well as other heads(Ping I15, MX-300). Loved the 300s, but not forgiving enough for my hits. Anyway, the fitting cost me $100. And it isn't deducted from the irons. But the place has been around since the late 70s and has a very good rep. Even pros go there for adjustments when the US Open is here on LI. So, if you get fitted properly for your game, $75 is worth it. And good luck with your purchase.

some people get weary when using ebay, dont be, ive been using/on ebay for quite a while now, just check out the feedback especially the feedback from deals the person has had with what he is selling you. And if all else fails dont matter what youll get your money back. The people at ebay and paypal are great.

Fitting is free if I buy from them so $700+7.5% tax=$752 OR $455+$75 for fitting + no tax =530 aka $225 saving...that'll leave me $115 leftover AFTER i purchase the $110 3 hybrid as well! No doubt...not buying locally! I'll be giving a few places a call on fitting prices.

Any insight on MX300s vs any of the MP series....should i stick with the GI irons or at least try the MP series...I DO NOT want something over my head that could hurt my game due to too much club for my skill! Handicaps are misleading sometimes...I consider myself a decent ball striker...putting runs up my score for sure!

That can vary, though, depending on some other things a golfer does, but it's a general starting point. I will say I'm not a big fan of the AI type text to speech voices. I think we still connect as humans with another clearly human voice with better inflection, tone, and even small imperfections. This feels like a corporate training video (not that I've done one of those in decades) or those formulaic-for-clicks Shorts on YouTube.
