I've got the yips...

... I played my local course on Saturday in a pretty stiff wind.

Hit 13 of 15 fairways, 16 greens in regulation and I must have 3 putted 90% of the greens.
Needless to say I was very frustrated with my putting.

What is the best resolution to this? I need to get back to my putting fundamentals, right? Any advice from guys who have had similar problems?

Thanks...

I'm just now getting over a bout of the same thing. I went to my teacher and asked him to take a look. Turns out, I was setting up with the putter face closed, although it did not look that way to me. Also, I was not following through, although it did not feel that way to me. Amazing how someone else can see things that you can't see yourself. After I really started to concentrate on making sure my putter face was square to the target line and my stroke followed through the ball smoothly my putting got back to normal, which is a good thing. Putting has always been my strong suit. It's really frustrating because I've been taking lessons and am striking the ball better than ever. I'm hitting more fairways and greens than ever in my life and then my putter leaves me. The last straw was a 9 hole round at my home course where I missed 6 putts from inside 4 ft. and shot a 48. Anyhow, my advice? Seek out a pro and have him take a look at what you're doing. There's probably some little subtle flaw that you can't identify that would look fairly obvious to an objective observer.

Don't know if this will help, but i heard that people will switch putters for a while then go back to the old one. They find that the change helps them because they become complacent with there current putter, to addapted to it. So a trick that might help, add one strip of led tape to the bottom of your putter, just a few ounces of weight to get a feel for it again. to be a 6 handicap, you must have a good foundation for putting.

I've got the yips...

I would say that you just need to practice some...seeing that you are in New England, I can only assume that your ability to practice putting out doors has been somehwat limited over the last four months??? Usually with time off I come back and my ball strking is okay...it is my touch and short game that usually suffers...but once I start putting some practice time into those aspects of my game they come around...good luck!
