I never hit my wedges with a full swing. Every shot from 115 to 60 is hit with a half swing -- I take the club back to where my left arm is parallel to the ground. The club determines the yardage, each one hit with the identical stroke:
60 degree ~ 60 yards
54 degree ~ 75 yards
PW ~ 90 yards
9-iron ~ 100 yards
8-iron ~ 110 yards

The wedges from 60 to PW have 6-degree gaps, but the irons from PW to 8 have 4-degree gaps, which explains the inconsistent distance differentials.

Build a yardage book with your wedges and fill in the gaps by taking it back to 9-o'clock, 7:30, etc. Mess around with gripping down an inch or so to fine tune between shots. Try to have no more than 3 swings with your wedges. You can get pretty much any yardage by combining 3 to 4 wedges, 3 swings, and gripping down 1 or 2 inches. You should know this if you are a 2.1 hcp. BTW, the average tour player carries his PW 126 yards.

Yeap. I'm more like a feel player, although... maybe if I do that, what you describe, I could develop a standard shot/swing for certain yardages, thanks! For example with my 56°, when I have 100 yards I don't use it, cause I'm sure that it will lands at the right distance but then backspin a lot, leaving me a longer putt. I will say that 90 yards it's my perfect 56° distance cuase it's not a full swing and it doesn't backspin, it just stops.

PW: 145

Pfff 190 with an 8 iron is insane haha! My buddy only hits hard his wedges, with all the other clubs we hit more or less the same distance and we end shooting more or less the same scores.

Ya man it is crazy when he does that!!! A while back he traded his irons for a set of Callaway X12s with graphite shafts and the first round he used them he broke two shafts off at the hosel since he pinches the ball so hard.

That's a pretty big 1/4 swing you got there. :O

An individual might deloft the club on impact - don't worry about someone else's numbers. That said, for adding to the sample size:

52 deg - 120
55 deg - 110
58 deg - 100

pretty consistent there

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
