After only getting serious about golf last year I shot 90 twice last year, but had never broken that mark. Today I shot an 87. I still need serious work on my game, but I'm getting there. Today I only hit 2 of 14 fairways, but I'm missing them so close to the edge it's not hurting me.......with the exception of two I hit OB. I did hit 7 GIR which is good for me, and the greens I'm missing are on the fringe or by 5-10 yards. 31 putts which is about average for me. The greens were recently punched and I did 3 putt twice which absolutely steams me. I left some shots out there with two tee balls OB and one insanely topped hybrid that traveled all of 30 yards. In my mind it should've been 7 shots better. But, at this stage I'll take it.

This round comes on the heels of some range work with the irons which has paid off.

Congrats man, I've only got one sub 90 round myself and it was on a very easy course, but it still felt great.

Sounds like you noticed the same thing I did after that round, you really didn't have to play a LOT better than your regular game, you just had to be more consistent at what you can already do. What I'm probably not saying very well is that I didn't suddenly add 10 to 20 yards to each of my clubs, or suddenly start dropping 20' putts, I just kept my ball in play and kept the 3 putts to a minimum.

Good luck, here's to a great start to what will hopefully be a great season!

congrats bro! I just broke 100 sunday. I know the feeling. Keep it up and im sure you will get the same rush like I did more often.

Congrats! I started playing lasy July and shot an 89 a few weeks ago. Went out a few days later and shot an 95 but actually hit the ball better. Since, I've been trying to work a fade / slice out and haven't came close to anything in the 80's but hey, it's a work in progress! haha Congrats again!

Heck ya man! I got away from golf for a few years (didn't have the time to dedicate to it but I am back now) and I still remember the first sub 90 round it was magical and something you just have to go back to sometimes. It was hard after that because once I did it I had to get it out if my mind that I won't be down there every round.

    • ^^^ I think this year gave us something incredibly exciting, but also special. That list of career grand slam winner is something else. Well, except for Gary Player.
    • I have to say I agree with Ben. It was impressive. I enjoy the Masters every year, I feel like this year gave us something really entertaining, but it's also possible I'm just a prisoner of the moment.
    • I'm going to pile on @TommyRude. The more I think about this take the funnier it gets in my head.  Colin Montgomerie lost at least three majors down the stretch that I can think of. 1994 US Open shot 78 in a three-person-play-off losing to Ernie Els (and Loren Roberts). Montgomerie pulled drivers left and pushed them right the entire play-off round. 1998 Masters; pulled three of his last five approach shots left. Ended up finishing tied for eighth.  2006 US Open was tied for the lead (with Phil). He was sitting in the middle of the fairway on 18. Hit his approach short, pulled his chip shot long left, 3 putted.  Therefore clearly, Colin Montgomerie's reliance on bulky musculature and overly testosterone driven attitude obviously caused these issues. 😁 If you want to go the other way, I know Brooks Koepka has credited all five of his majors to the fact that he's powerfully built. ... I'll suggest DeChambeau may say the same thing.
