Here's the thing, you do not fire off the right foot. Impact has 80 plus percent weight on the front foot, so you fire off the front foot. How can you fire off a foot that has such lack of contact with the ground. Most pros bank there back foot in, you don't push off a banked foot, there's no support there.

If you actually read what was posted you'd realize Faldo says one thing and does another. Feel isn't real, it's been proven by video analysis. How about you educate yourself and read the entire thread first.

This Dominic guy doesn't know what he's talking about re: the right knee flex, but you do actually fire off the back foot to start the downswing. Check the pressure testing swing thoughts thread. Good players fire off the right foot. That's how the trail knee regains its flex in the early downswing after having "straightened" on the backswing.

The pressure increase actually happens in both feet in the downswing, but of course, by impact, all that pressure has gone considerably forward... like you said 80+%.

Good players fire off the right foot. That's how the trail knee regains its flex in the early downswing after having "straightened" on the backswing.

The pressure increase actually happens in both feet in the downswing, but of course, by impact, all that pressure has gone considerably forward... like you said 80+%.

Quick little nit-pick: re-bending the right knee isn't "firing" - it decreases pressure. The muscles in your right leg do very little on the downswing.

Hello everybody, just joined this website hoping to learn more as I am a beginner that is self-learning. After videotaping myself, I realized that I straighten my right leg considerably during my back swing so I started to google this subject.

I only read a couple of pages of this forum post and it appears most everyone agrees that the leg shouldn't lock up completely but straightening is unavoidable.  However, I looked at a lot of videos of Adam Scott, as I really like his swing and wished to emulate him, and saw that it is indeed possible to keep the right knee almost the same flex even at the top of the back swing.

I haven't tested this extensively, but from limited practice swings, it feels like I am able to get the club head to the same spot during contact (height-wise) more consistently. In other words, I thin the ball less. I probably had a little bit of up & down going on when I straightened my right leg without realizing it and keeping the knee flexed maybe is helping with consistency as it is one less moving part.

What do you guys think?

    • Bryson got hit with a 2 shot penalty, after the round, for improving his lie on hole 5.  Here is a post on X, showing how he stepped on high grass when he was looking down his target line.  When they cut to the side shot, you can see how close he was behind the ball.  I think the R&A probably made the correct decision. You just have to be really careful when you are walking in the high grass, around the ball and where you are to make a swing.

    • Day 27 (17 July 26) - Normally an 18 hole day, but due to commitments abbreviated the round to 9 holes (played the back nine at home course).  Had a solid session where even the worst miss (tee shot off 18) was fully playable.  Shot a solid 39 (6pars, 3bogies) - not dbls, no three putts - just boring golf.  
    • Overall, well said. People have to be very careful in trying to describe very complex problem in simple terms. In this case, it is a clear fundamental misunderstanding of Newton's 1st and 3rd laws.  To clarify more on the misinterpretation of Newton's 1st law. The exact interpretation of Newton's 1st Law....  "Every body continues in its state of rest, or of uniform motion in a straight line, unless it is compelled to change that state by forces impressed upon it" yea, a body will stay motionless unless a force acts upon it. An object will stay on its path of motion unless a force acts upon it.  I get it, complex physics problems are difficult. There is a lot of simplification done in most physics class when it is taught. A classic problem uses a frictionless surface. Projectile motion excludes drag and wind direction. Collisions are usually elastic. The golf swing is not a simple physics problem.  Yea, I think they got caught up the data on the graphs and are not truly understanding cause and effect.  If the golfer isn't first pushing into the ground, then the ground isn't going to push back.  The internal forces of the body create the motion, not the external forces from the ground. The ground isn't like what Psy uses to start his concert. 🤣 You probably need to be connected to the ground and have those GRF to help the body produce the motion you want. Your body has to move in the right way to produce the GRF which helps you move the body in the way you want. Body motion precedes the GRF.
