another thing that really helped me with the butt pulling off the wall was fixing my posture at address. Erik gave me some good instruction on fixing my posture. My legs were too bent at address with my butt sticking out and when I would go into the downswing I would get into a better position by pulling off the wall. When I fixed my address I didnt pull off the wall that much. Compare your posture with aaron baddeley in the video.

I just realized were throwing a ton of stuff at you, lol

yea I wasnt sure if he does it anymore or even did it that much in the first place, I just remember him saying he had problems with pulling his butt off the wall and those drills helped him.

It will be something I always work on. It will probably never be "perfect" but even a small improvement will help my game.

Thanks all for the contributions to this thread. I'll hit the range this weekend to work on getting the hands a bit lower and deeper, as well as the footwork and hips tips.

Really hoping to play a few amateur events in 2011, hopefully this will be a productive winter.

Agreed. Unfortunately, my posture is pretty bad and rounded shoulders run in the family. Really working on strengthening my core, keeping the abs in/lower back flatter and lifting/stretching to build up my back properly.

Rounded shoulders arent a bad thing. Too many people try to make the S posture with their back at address which isnt good, especially on your lower back. If you have your shoulders (rounded) or just hanging a little your will feel more contected to your pecks or chest.

Your back posture was fine. You just had a bit too much weight towards your heels. Stand a bit farther from the ball, a teeny bit taller (not much), and a bit more forward flexion from the ankles/shins. I think it was point #3 above. I mentioned it somewhere, but briefly.

Will do. This, along with deeper & lower hands came up in a recent lesson. Need to stick to this stuff.

  • 1 month later...

It's finally snowy and frigid here in Nebraska, and for the life of me I can't figure out why Omaha doesn't any indoor or covered ranges.  There is an indoor virtual golf/sports bar, but it's an expensive way to spend an hour ($40).

I had been focused on footwork and the pressure point between my left arm and chest, and things are feeling better and better.  The lady let me turn the basement into a hitting area for the winter, and it's been clutch for ingraining setup changes and working on solid impact.  Can't take a full swing, but can hit at full speed from a 3/4 backswing with wedges and mid-irons.

Being able to hit real balls in January has never felt better :)

    • When I lived in Oregon my friend had a rule. It could only be 2 of the following 3 items for us to play. If all 3 we’d skip.    1. Windy (20+) 2. Rainy (needs to be steady, rain in Oregon is pretty common) 3. Cold (less than a high of 50) This was a pretty solid rule.
    • Day 74: Worked on priority piece, full swing for about an hour this evening after dinner. Really need to exaggerate “hitting to right field feel” more than I think to produce slight push draw ball flight.
    • Day 170 - Got some good work in on the short game, as well as more work on my priority piece.
    • I searched around but didn’t see any other threads on this so I’ll put it here. I work in the laser industry and one of the applications has been additive manufacturing. The main market for the past 10 years has been SpaceX and the space industry and some medical applications. The new one I saw this week is 3D printing irons. Cobra and the company that they are using is marketing these irons pretty aggressively.  In talking with the folks in the booth at the trade show, the claim is that they can gain strength but reduce the weight to put it exactly where they want. The print of the iron is very cool. Mostly everything behind the face is a thin metal lattice and then in the heal and toe is a block of tungsten for weight.  I am old enough to remember the arguments about forged versus cast irons. I wonder if folks here will pay a bit more to get 3D printed irons.  They have a booth here where you can hit them but I hate lines and the line to do it is always long. I go again tomorrow, and if the line isn’t too long I’ll give it a try and report back.    Here are some pictures (I had some trouble uploading, I’ll try later)
