ORLANDO, Fla. – Terry Gannon has joined Golf Channel’s live tournament team to share play-by-play responsibilities for the network’s coverage of the PGA Tour and LPGA. A veteran broadcaster of 21 years, Gannon’s partnership with Golf Channel will extend through 2013. His first Golf Channel assignment will be the LPGA Championship, beginning June 24, where he will be paired with Hall-of-Famer Judy Rankin for the LPGA’s second major championship of 2010. He will partner with Nick Faldo for his first PGA Tour assignment at the AT&T; National, which will be contested over Independence Day weekend and will feature Tiger Woods headlining the field.

He previously did the LPGA on ESPN.

Has anyone else noticed that Kelly Tilghman isn't doing much play-by-play anymore?

I worked with Terry Gannon's dad at the Horsehoe sportsbook in Las Vegas about 20 years ago. He always got a kick out of it when someone mentioned his son, who was on NC State's famous 1983 basketball team that upset Houston in the final. I watched my tape of that game a few days ago. Gannon was a tenacious guard with an outside shot. He had the responsibility of fouling Houston a couple of times late in the game when NC State trailed and was desperate to send Houston to the free throw line.

I wondered what he was doing now, after ABC lost its golf coverage. Golf Channel makes sense, no doubt primarily LPGA events.
