Alright, So I have recently tried to get somewhat serious about golf. I bought some slightly used Mizuno MX900 Irons with a regular flex and a Diablo Driver with a regular flex. I have a slight draw on my Drives which I love. My irons however have a snap hook and was just wondering if there are some tips to correct this.

Yeah, quick from the top is usually the reason for the quick/snap hook.

Snap hooks are caused by a very closed clubface through impact. Coming over the top in most cases will result in a dead pull, although this doesn't sounds like your problem.

If you are indeed snap hooking the ball, you need to work on your club face at impact. Can you post a photos/video of your grip and swing?

Yea I will post some videos but it wont be until this weekend. I do think a fast swing at the top is part of the problem. I think I need to start my downswing more with my hips and body, does that sound correct?

Fast could be a very big part of it. It's tough to keep your hands, upper and lower body in sync when you are swinging too quickly. That could be a big part of a closed clubface at impact.

Go take a peek at Ernie Els' swing.

You should be in good position to self-correct as an 18 HI, but remember that 'fast' is really a relative term. It means that you're getting fast and short relative to your normal rhythm (which might be quite different from somebody else's), so look at other's swings with a grain of salt. You don't want to try to force somebody else's rhythm over your own.

I would check a couple of things:

1.) as others have mentioned, you're probably getting quick and handsy at the top and are initiating the downswing by pulling down your hands. Focus on starting with your hips before making any effort with your arms. I'll practice this without a club just to keep the feel of my hands natrually lagging my hips. It also helps some people to visualize throwing a frisbee.

2.) Your swing path could be too flat with the irons. This is probably an issue with your setup. You may be standing too far away from the ball with your irons, which can promote a very shallow in to out path. It's not as much of an issue with the driver since it's a longer club. Check your posture - make sure you're not reaching for the ball at address. Your back should be flat (bend at the hips) and your arms should hang down naturally with all clubs. Generally for me, the shorter the club, the more I'll need to bend at the hips (although my back should still remain flat).

Well I decided to trade my mizuno mx900's in. I had switched from a stiff flex (which I hit straight) to the reg flex and think that the extra flex definately contributed to the miss hits.

you were snap hooking a stiff, so you traded in your set for regular shafts within the last day?

Why not just get them reshafted to the stiff flex?

Reshafting would cost about as much as the clubs cost me....and who doesn't just enjoy getting some new clubs?

I think he was snapping the regular flex whereas when he had the stiff he was hitting straight. Still don't see why he didn't just get the clubs re-shafted.

Gotcha. Good luck, hope it works out. What did you trade them in for?

    • Day 79 (19 July 25) - Band rehearsal this morning - got home midafternoon, opted to work more with the magnetic alignment tool with the wedges.  Used it to work on face position at the bottom of the swing arc - followed up with easy pitches up to 50yds.  Seeing better face control and over improved accuracy toward target…session was cut short with pop up rain showers.
    • This is a great discussion. Other parts of the course where there are houses have white stakes and signs. This keeps people from trespassing and hitting shots on their property. There is another county road on the east side of the course that does not have white stakes like the hole I described. I checked the score card and there is nothing to indicate these roadways are OB. I think a county drainage ditch would be considered government right-of-way so it is the peoples land 🤣. But you are in the power industry and know more about those sorts of things than me.
    • Day 3: Worked on backswing. Feel: Matt Wolff, Real: Not yanking it inside and getting it laid off and flat at the top.
    • I wrote the post before leaders tee'd off today (3rd round) when Schef was still tied with Fitz at -10. Also, if you read further I also said 'one man' will most probably put the championship to sleep by end of today..😊. Yeah, not much drama left it seems. Scheffler with a hot putter is out right frustrating for the field. I will still watch tomorrow because the course is awesome and the play is pretty exciting in general. Players reaching deep to hang on.
