What do you mean, based on the clubface they never really had a fighting chance? I wasn't aiming at anything btw, that is just how the face fell when I set the club down to take the pic.

the clubface doesn't has any wear marks on it, looks like you only hit it once or twice.

I took my "shovels" yesterday afternoon, and beat my previous best score by ten strokes. I'll 'Shovel" the ball all day long with improvement like that....

your

shovels probably won't give you much feedback, doubt you know if you mis-hit your shovels or hit them dead centre. It's hard to work on your swing with those shovels .

One of the biggest misconceptions I see around here is that GI clubs don't provide any feedback. They absolutely do, you can tell exactly where you hit the ball on the club face, you just don't get out of control uncomfortable vibrations like you do from blades.

I get it now. :) Those pics were from the day I got the clubs in the spring of 09. I played them all last season.

I get plenty of feedback on my G5's. I can tell exactly where I hit the ball everytime. Any wouldn't you know, I can get them to draw and fade too!!! And what are you talking about saying "your shovels"? You play shovels too!

Man, talk about a pissing match! Irons, just as anything else in your bag is all about preference. I believe Jack Nicklaus said that 90% of the shot is determined before you even swing. Having confidence in your equipment and what you see at address is important.

Are there performance difference between blades, MBs and cavity irons, sure! Do guys play clubs above and below their intended skill levels, sure! Does it matter to my playing partners what I'm looking down at, or vise versa, hell no.

I believe this dead horse is sufficiently beaten.

Shovels, butterknives, ego boosters - why can't we all just get along. Anyway, the "feedback" from some blades is overrated. A bad shot off my Mizunos feels better than a great shot with my old Titleist blades but with either set I can tell exactly where the ball struck the clubface. The feel of vibrations is there, but a twisting clubhead and goofy ball flight don't lie. You can get that kind of feeback from any iron.

I guess you are right. If a guy wants to play a club because it gives him a chubby when he looks at it rather than playing a club that works better it is his prerogative. Me, I'll save my cubbies for the ladies and play a club that works better.

Like when I chunk it and the ball doesn;t go anywhere? Or I top it and it scoots 100yds across the ground? How about when I hit the the heel and get a really thin contact sound and send the ball screaming to the right? Or when I hit it dead center in the sweet spot with a resonate "THWOCK" and the ball flies straight and true? Is that the feedback you mean?

I don't get why you're so bitter against my precious "shovels"

I don't think he was referring to gross misses like flubs, tops and shanks.

Hitting a ball dead center, versus several millimeters toward the hell, toe, thin or fat are acute misses. These are the misses that can be easier felt in a players club where the margin of error is smaller, in comparison to many GI clubs where such misses are slightly muted and compensated for. This is due to the size of the sweetspot and the dampening, or lack thereof, in an iron head. These shots often look similar to a well-struck shot (within a few yards), differing mainly in feedback via the club. I believe this is what james meant by "feedback."

I think everyone needs to agree to disagree on this one...11 pages of bantering about personal beliefs. That is what makes this game so cool though. A club is a club. You hit what you like. Most people won't stick with an iron they can't hit. I thought I could play with the Pro combo tours and found out I couldn't hit them to save my life, yet I pick up an MP52 and hit it wherever I want. I think everyone pays too much attention to how the club is designed and marketed rather than on which one fits their swing. This is also why demo days might be the coolest thing ever.

So anyone else agree to disagree? Or is it just me? lol

IMO, no club helps with aim. Aiming is dependent on the golfer, not the clubs. Only you can ensure the club face is pointing where you want the ball to start.

This is very true. I don't have any trouble aiming massive shovels. Good golfers never practice without alignment aids, and I don't either. I always make note of where each club starts and finishes the ball, and get used to that as my aiming line. Too many people are aiming the clubface at address, which isn't a good idea. The club opens and closes through the swing, so it's much better to learn where the ball is going to go, and aim yourself to match that. That's why guys like Couples and Trevino aim a mile left and still hit their target. I aim left, and try to hit a small fade. If I want to hit a draw, I just stand square, with the face opened a bit. I know when I line my body up, without even looking at the clubhead, where my ball is going to go.
