nuck81 - It's a good idea to start tracking your handicap. The handicap system was developed to help level the playing field of all golfers. To anyone on this forum you simply look like a sandbagger that nobody would want to play with if they said they were a 40 or 99.9 handicap. There are many free sites available online for you to start tracking your handicap which you can find here...

It's all good bro.

It's just frustrating being a beginner and new to the site, that some here seem to feel you're not allowed to have a valid or knowledgable opinion. It's been two months since my first lesson and I lost ten strokes off my previous best score. Monday I played 68 on a par 3 54 which included three blowup holes of triples. My goal is to be consistently under 100 before the end of the summer, and close to 90 by this time next year....

Correct me if I'm wrong but that is a synthetic leather glove right? Obviously those are going to wear better than real leather. I used to use one for practice just because of that reason, but always game a real leather glove. To the OP just wear what ever feels best, and be be sure to try them all on if buying more than one at a time, just because it says it's the same size doesn't mean it's gonna fit the same.

Do the gloves differ in feel? I'm a beginner and have never actually played, but would it be detrimental in any way (on average), to not "practice how you play" by wearing different gloves? I heard you should even use the same kind of ball for putting practice that you actually game with.

The callaway warbirds that come in the 2 pack for 16.99 are comfortable. They also have a synthetic leather patch on the palm to aid in durability. I wear them for everything but putting and chipping.

I also apologize if I may " simply look like a sandbagger that nobody would want to play with if they said they were a 40 or 99.9 handicap ", seeing as I have a 99.9 entered. I am actually working on a legitimate handicap factor, but don't have enough RCGA-rated games in yet for it to calculate properly. I guess I could change it to a single digit HC and it wouldn't matter, seeing as leaving it blank is not an option. I always assume when someone has "99.9", it meant they didn't have an actual HC, so I followed suit. Once again, I apologize for any previous and future lost rounds to us sandbaggers, because apparently, that's what we are. I guess if the shoe fits.........

Not that any of this has to do with the OP's topic, ffs.

There are basically two or three groups of different feeling gloves. Anything within a group will feel slightly different than the next group, but not by much. If you are new to golf don't worry about it right now. You won't be able to tell the difference.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

I don't think it makes a big difference with the glove, but I figure if I can (or can't) afford a glove to practice with, I can (or can't) afford it to play with. For ball, I would stick with the same or a similar ball for putting because it can affect feel, at least psychologically.

Personally, I say get something cheap and durable and it'll be fine. A glove isn't so critical that it's going ot hold you back, so why spend extra bucks until you know why you're spending them? Golf is expensive enough, you've got to resist the urge to play top of the line X brand just because so-and-so the pro does it. Get a tight fitting glove that feels comfortable when you try it on, and then forget about it. It'll be fine.

The only difference is the synthetic is maybe a little thicker compared to leather, so you would get better feel with leather.

    • Day 1 (19 Jan 26) - after a week lay-off due to travels, felt great to get in some drills in the backyard today.  Started with lead arm only short pitches focused on squared face and light divot post ball.  Haven’t done this in a while and it showed, with some skulls and slices.  Settled into easy flighted balls - wrapped up with standard two handed swings.  Good restart to the daily drills.
    • That depends what you do within those two.  Are they your only options?   Check out Fit for Golf if you get a moment.  It's linked on the sidebar;  I did it for two years, stopped for a really bad reason, and I plan to get back to it soon.   Mike Carroll also has a great free podcast about a lot of topics in golf fitness.
    • Day 19, 1/19.  Finished work in time to spend 25 minutes hitting balls (hit 15) indoors, off a mat, into the net.  Usual focus.
    • Day 30 - 2026-01-19 Got 10 minutes in on the mat / net working on exagerrating movements I'm working on. And grip. Also worked with my friendly AI to summarize key negative tendencies I have so that I can build a personal checklist to follow. Will do more mirror work tonight.
