Wrist Fatigue

So at the end of last season, I knew something was goofed up with my wrists, which felt directly related to how I gripped the club. Earlier this season I played a round with my old golf coach (who is a semi-retired PGA teaching pro) who showed me that my grip was definitely goofed up, instead of being neutral, my hands naturally closed the club face at impact, and I was feeling pain by trying to fight it with my wrists. Now I took his advice to take a more neutral grip, and it has worked well, but in the last few weeks I've been having issues with my left wrist being incredibly tired even after 9 holes of play. I don't think i lost muscle or strength in it over the off season, but the more blah it feels, the worse I start doing. From fiddling around with it right now, I think it may be linked to having too tight of a grip in my pinky and ring fingers, but I just don't know. It definitely becomes a heck of a lot more noticeable when practicing pitching/chipping around the green and hinging/holding my wrists.

If the weather weren't going to be so crappy this weekend, I was going to spend some time at the range, but that doesn't look like its going to happen. I'm thinking I may be letting my ball position drift too far back in my stance again, or I just haven't played enough yet this year to get the endurance up.

As for how tight a grip to use, some famous golfer/teacher said that you want to hold the club tight enough that it doesn't fly out of your hands during the swing. Somebody else (Snead?) said to imagine you are holding a bird: not so tight you kill the bird, but tight enough so it doesn't get away.

I do a lot of exercises for the wrists and forearms, like dumbell wrist curls backward and forward and 4-way exercises with a 3 lb drilling hammer, but still keep a light grip on a golf club. Years ago, though, I did use too much pressure. Got a lot of blisters, plus, gripping hard stiffens the arms.

I need to strengthen my left wrist (common injury in amateur golfers) as it is always stiff and painful during the first few chips of my warm up, OK after that and hurts now and again a couple of days after a round.
I use a wrist brace to immobilise it if it hurts too bad. Have not had it looked at by a doc yet though.

Having broke both my wrists the pain comes and goes. I recommmend Advil for the inflimation and continue with the swing that works. Eventually the tiredness will subside. Also perhaps a weighted club could assist with the wrist strenghening.
