My current swing has a steep backswing and then a flatter downswing.

is this ok?
or should I have it the same?

Definitely more than one way to skin a cat in this game. I am of the school of going with what works and hits it solid fo each individual. Only really important part of the swing is a foot on either side of the ball. As far as a steep back swing and a little flatter on the way down, Ill give two examples. Jack Nicklaus and Robert Allenby, both I would say are decent ball strikers . If you are hitting it well, I say groove it.

This is true, the two examples I gave earlier have very prounced vertical clubs on the way back which is definitely not the norm.

Not true at all. A lot of players swing back on roughly the same plane they'll use to come into the ball. Almost all start the club back lower than impact (due to impact being on a higher plane) in the first few feet of their takeaway.

To the OP: I prefer a one-plane swing because I think it simplifies a lot of things for the golfer, BUT if you can take it back above the plane and drop it to the plane, and TIME that well enough, then stick with it. If you can't, then look into doing something else.

most so called one planers like myself still bring the club back on a slightly steeper plane than downswing. hell even hogan did it. the only person i can think of who might have had close to identical planes is Mo, a few players would go back flatter than the downswing and come in steeper or over the top like stadler etc. when i said almost the entire pga tour, that is the truth (kind of). let me clear it up tho cuz i just reread OP's post. 99% of pga players have a steepER backswing than downswing. but he did say steep back swing, not steeper, so as far as the tour goes i'd say steep back is still the majority, but more and more are moving towards a one plane, Tiger for ex. either way is fine though OP, but you might want to just give a one plane a shot. can't hurt
