I noticed that my swing speed varied significantly based on which driver I was swinging. I have an '08 Taylormade Burner and my swing speed was around 103-105mph. When I tried my friend's driver - Titleist 909, i was swinging 113-117mph!

The main difference I noticed is the weight. Taylormade's shaft is around 45g, the Titleist is heavier. Both have stiff shafts.

I'm pretty happy with my Burner as it is easy to hit and it has helped improve my consistency.

Any thoughts on the impact on the swing speed and what to make out of the speed difference? Is the burner not a good fit for me?

call me a skeptic, but i'm not convinced there's going to be that much speed change in swinging two different drivers. i could be wrong, but that's quite a bit. if you have trouble off the tee with your driver, i'd keep the burner. you have to try hard to hit a really bad shot with it, got loads of forgiveness. but, if you like to be able to work the ball with minimal effort, i'd actually suggest an r7 or r9 over the titleist.

That is a pretty large difference. Did you swing one first and get loose and then swing the other? Are the shafts the same length? Also, the 909 comes with a D3 version with a slightly smaller head that has gained some popularity on tour. A long time ago the R&A; did a study of swing speed with different swing weights and the speed curve was pretty flat over a good range -- but not perfectly flat. Lighter clubs can be swing faster but not by much. However, some golfers feel the weight helps them time the effective timing (slang for lag) so they use heavier shafts. I don't have a clue as to what any particular person would do -- depends on their swings.

I was warmed up by hitting my irons but the first driver I hit was my Burner, but I have never seen my speed reach 110. But with the Titleist that I tried, I was able to easily hit >110 and was able to reach 117. I hit each driver about 4 times. I can't explain so much speed difference. I'll have to go back again to the range and measure it again. The range I goto has this equipment -> http://www.inpractis.com/index.php

I also have an older Ping G2 (65g stiff shaft), will try that out too and see how the shaft weight contributes to the speed.

Just as a data points - I hit my 3I 101mph and 3wood (Ping G5) 106mph.

Oh man, why'd you have to go and start another of these threads?

Pretty soon, the thread will be full of sandtrap 'long-ballers' all claiming swingspeeds that can generate a sonic boom...

Nah, something is wrong. The average tour player swings a driver 112, but a 5 wood 103 and a 3 iron 98. That would mean that you were either losing a ton of speed with the Burner (and it's a very light, long driver, so that's not likely), or something about the machine is off. Could just be the burner doesn't register right or something.
