I have the bushnell neo and it works great for me. I like the simplicty. You have front, center, back and 4 customizable points per hole. It carries a $35 yearly fee, but you can dl 100 courses in a year. So I will download a bunch of courses around my house and my families and ones I would like to play. I just won't re-up the next year.

Hey Trek3,

I have used the Neo for two years. Just like Shades9323, and didn't have to shell out an arm & a leg for it....I did the same thing....downloaded all the courses I thought I would play and would not have to renew my subsription after year one. What I did not count on was one of the courses I play in an annual tournament reconfigured their course, so I had to renew my subscrition and ask them to redo the course (which they did). Overall, the Neo from Bushnell/iGolf is defintely worth the small change invested.

Any way to read that article on the web? I've been looking lately to get an app for my iphone. If that was the only stumbling point then I don't know why anyone would buy a stand alone gps. As Wadess said you can buy booster batteries for very cheap. Wish I could try golflogix but they have no courses near me (only a very small number in the whole of NZ) so golf shot looks like the only choice for me.

I don't know if you can read it on the web or not. There were other gripes as well such as questionable maps and unreliable precision. They claimed that many high end gps devices get their mesurements by an actual person charting yardages by foot to get exact location compared to smartphone apps which were unreliable and getting information from outdated google maps etc..

The whole thing was slanted against iPhone apps.

I downloaded the Verizon GPSGolfShot app today and then utilized it during my round. It actually works quite well, and was pretty darn accurate. Maybe a bit slow at time innailing down the exact yardage, but it worked better than I exspeced. For $3.99 a month, its worth it.
On the cart path only days it would be most useable on a NON-flip type phone however, as you leave the app running at all times. Oh, and it doesn't use your minutes.

I was in the same boat a couple months ago, not knowing which GPS unit to get. After reading similar threads I went and got the Garmin G5 off ebay for $300 out the door. Took me a little time to figure out how to use it quickly and effectively on the course, but I f**kin love the thing!

Every course is already loaded into it and you don't have to pay any yearly fees. Touch screen unit with a cursor that you can measure distance to that point and it tells you how far you have left in to the green from there. Measures to multiple points on every hole from the main picture and then you can zoom in to the green showing F, M and B with the option to drag the flag to a point where you think the hole location is that day. Option to measure your shot distance. Pretty much everything you would need in a VERY simple and easy to use device. I highly recommend it.

    • Phew... lol
    • Phil M was (is?) was a total cowboy in his day but served him well at the Masters it seems.
    • Rory at the crime scene again from yesterday (#15).. Let's see what he does after this piped drive. If he mangles this b**** again, Imma go out and jump in a puddle.
    • If you're going to make claims, back them up with facts. Do you have any facts that support this claim that Rory does this when under pressure?    Did the hyper aggression negatively affect his play when he won The Players this year making that 2 wins in 4 starts for him at that point? Can you provide some evidence directly showing how his hyper aggression has negatively affected his play?   This isn't even accurate anymore, they called the divorce off.  If you're going to criticize someone at least get your facts straight.
    • Why if you're just going to wait next? Are they behind? Rounds took over five hours yesterday.
