I'd like to buy a golf GPS in the next few weeks, and definitely want one of the less expensive units. I was originally locked into the Golf Logix (usually under $170 on amazon - but it flucuates). I saw a comment on here about the Bushnell Neo so I started looking at that one as well.

Each unit seems to give the basics of distance to green (Front, Back, Center). I was curious if one unit could do anything that the other can't do. If they are pretty similar, I'll save $70 and go with the Neo as both seem to have the courses I usually play.

Does anyone have experience with both units, or was also looking at each of these units like I am?

I don't have experience with the Neo, but I do own a Igolf Triton (That was the name before Bushnell bought them out). Anyway, I'm extremely happy with it, and have had no problems! The main reason I went with it is because you don't have to pay a fee year after year. I payed a fee the first year ($34.95 maybe) and was able to download a 100 courses and they are yours to keep. You don't have to pay again unless there is a course you don't already have, and then you get to download another 100 courses if you pay the fee. I don't know about you, but 100 courses is all I'll ever need! Good luck!

I was also going to purchase a GolfLogix GPS, but chose the Neo instead. I have used the Neo for two years now and absolutley love the performane. Granted, this unit does not have Bells & Whistles, but it is accurate and has allowed me to record my own special points for my home course.

My golf buddy has a Skycaddie 2.5. It is slow to pull up the yardage, and several times during the round (this happens every week) it will not pull anything at all. he gets frustrated, so I politely give him the yardage from my Neo.

Now, with the cost at $99, I soundly believe it is one to buy.

I've had my GolfLogix GPS-8 for 2 full seasons now, starting the third and I'm very happy with it. I'm especially happy with the service... most of the courses I've downloaded have been updated at least once since I first got them, and 2 courses which weren't originally available have been added at my request. My requests were dealt with promptly. However, I still use my Bushnell Tour V2 laser in conjunction with the GPS, as there are times when I need a measurement to an object which isn't included in the GPS unit's program. I find that both units have their strengths and both have some shortcomings.

In the end, what you get depends on what you think you need. In my opinion, too many bells and whistles just lead to more screwing around and ultimately, to slower play.

I recently shopped for a golf GPS, and both these models made my short list. In the Neo's favor, you have a one-time fee vs. annual membership for the GolfLogix, not to mention the lower initial cost. The most important factor to consider, though, is the course availability for each. Be sure to check each model's website to see if your favorite courses are available. If memory serves, iGolf has a larger database of courses, which may prove significant.

The Neo does have an annual fee. It gets you 100 courses per year.

But, once you download your courses, they're yours forever. There's no reason to renew your annual fee, unless you plan on adding new courses every year.

This is true. I was just correcting the poster that says there is no annual fee, when there actually is. You can just choose not to renew it.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the GolfLogix unit allows you to save 20 courses at a time. Say you only play 20 courses and you save them all, would you ever need to pay the annual fee again ?

How many courses can I load on GolfLogix at one time?
The GolfLogix unit can hold the distance information for up to 20 courses. You receive one free course with every GolfLogix purchase. With the unlimited membership of $29.95 annually, you can download an unlimited amount of courses to your computer that will be accessible for one year. You can then select and load courses from your computer to your GolfLogix unit, up to 20 at a time. At anytime you can change the selection of courses on the unit, provided your membership is active. After one year, if membership is not renewed, you will only have access to the first free course.

This was taken from Golflogix website, so you have to have a membership fee just to use it

So assume I buy a GolfLogix, pay the course download fee, and download the 20 courses to load them on the unit. What happens to them when I don't renew the membership in a year? I realize I could not download any new courses, or use my PC to make any transfers, but what about the 20 courses that are currently loaded on the unit?

So you have to keep paying the annual fee for the life of the unit, unless you only want to use your one free course? That kinda sucks.

Yep I am also looking for one,and the onpar and callaway upro just look too nice to avoid. I really do not NEED one, but I want one, because it tells you how far each of your clubs go on average.

Try looking at the GPS's from GolfBuddy. No Fees and most courses are already loaded on the system. There are some that are about the same price as the Golf Logix now or even cheaper.
