I mean, he's not playing horrible or anything, but I'm sure he's not too pleased with his performance of the last few weeks. I heard a teaser on The Golf Channel on a report on his play after switching caddies. Didn't watch the report though.

Anyone have any thoughts.

Personally, I was a bit shocked to hear that he was changing caddies. Certainly after his 2004 season.

His caddie took a 2 month break...might even be for good now...but I don't think Vijay chose to change caddies, his caddy didn't like the way Vijay treated him, so he quit.

Ahh. I 'd heard reports of his caddy having problems with him. Now that I think of it, on HBO's Real Sports last week, Vijay was the cover story and there was mention from Vijay that his caddy would come to work drunk and Vijay would give him S for that.

I really think it's the flatstick. Vijay's just not putting as well as he did last year. Last year right after switching back to the conventional putter he started draining everything from all distances. He hasn't found the magic this year IMHO.

He's always been a bit of a streaky putter, last year he got really hot for a long time. Perhpas it may be time for him to go back to the belly putter.

The caddy thing - I saw it - was summarized as such: he won last year with different caddies, so no, losing his "main" caddy is having no effect. After all, he already won without last year's regular caddy this year.

He still shot like -2 today or something. Of course, so did everyone else, but that's not bad for round 1 of the Blue Monster.

I think this is just due justice. I personally don't want Vijay representing the sport as its top player, so I couldn't care less if he is struggling. I believe that his problems may be a combination of things:

1) The streaky putting as mentioned before.
2) A little bit of over confidence going into this season after last year's achievements.
3) Too much focus on working out to get better instead of "feel" and "touch."

Just my .02. I may be way off, I may not be.

-9 puts him in a tie for first as of noon, EST today. He had a good round today.

I read where Vijay is known for being hard on his caddies.
I think he is overdue for a mini-slump, but it'll be short lived

    • As usual, this is difficult to answer without seeing your swing. So, my first suggestion is to start a My Swing Thread.  After that, my next best guess is that you fade (slice) your driver more than your 3-wood.  I once played with a guy who had such a glancing blow with his driver that I could out drive him with my 6 iron.  Get with a good instructor and learn to hit your driver properly. Even with 93 mph swing speed you should be able to hit your driver 210-230.
    • I recently returned to golf and got a Swing Caddy SC300i. It has confirmed what I have suspected for some time - I hit my 3 wood as far as my driver. This is backed up by similar swing speeds of 93 MPH. I have had 6 months off golf and exercise, so my speed is down a bit on what it was. Driver is 12 degrees, D1, Cobra 70g stiff shaft. 3 wood is 15 degrees, D0, Cleveland Gold 65g stiff shaft. The 3 wood feels great to me and flies straight. The driver feels dead to me and tends to slice. A local pro thinks the shafts are both a little on the soft side of stiff (which suits for me). The only difference I can see is the driver total weight is 340 grams and the 3 wood is 320 grams. My question is what is going on? Surely 20 grams should not slow my driver down to the same swing speed as my 3 wood?
