I have been taking some lessons lately and am in the middle of what I'd call a pretty big change. Went to course today and had a great warm up. I thought it was going to be a great round then reality set it. Do you guys have any tips for being able to take my range ball striking to the first ree

do the same thing you did on the range. when i get on the first tee, which usually calls for driver, i try to hit the ball as hard as i can. seriously, i swing for the fences with no fear. you've got to be able to do that, cause if you're too worried about hitting bad shots then you'll hit bad shots.

Understand that the range is a pressure free situation, and that on the course, you have nerves. You need to both be aware that you're nervous, and be aware of what to do. When I get nervous, I try to swing short and easy, and keep one simple swing thought in my head. If I mishit it, or even just top or shank it, it means nothing. Just shake it off, say "what a game", then bash it onto the green. The shot you just hit in this game means nothing, the shot you're about to hit means everything.

As was said, there's no pressure on the range, so it's easier to stay loose. I find I play best when I relax and don't get caught up in the significance of a shot. For me, it helps to line up, take a breath, and swing without spending much time over the ball. On the range, I line up, get comfortable, and swing without much delay. There's a tendency on the course to overthink, as if you'll be better prepared to swing if you think through your technique one more time or look up one more time to confirm your target. From my experience, it never helps. Line up right, set up, and go. If I miss, it's because I miss a lot of shots, not because I didn't spend long enough preparing for this one.

T-Zoid Forged 15° 3W, MX-23 4-PW
Harmonized 52° GW, Tom Watson 56° SW, X-Forged Vintage 60° LW
White Hot XG #1 Putter, 33"

Take with you one or two swing thoughts for the course, no more. I usually got one thought for my setup and one for the swing itself. More then that and I'll have a hard time doing any of them right.

When it's time to perform, you're always going to rely on what's in your subconscious mind. If your new swing change hasn't been installed, your mind won't let you use it when you play. Practice that change more so it has a greater chance of emerging.

Taking your game from the range to the course is easy if you hit balls on the range with the same frame of mind that you have when you're playing. Before a round you have to warm up your mind, not just your swing.

Thanks for all the tips. Actually played again yesterday and took it to the course much better. My only problem now is club selection cause when using new swing I'm hitting it much farther. But that's a easy fix just need to spend some time learning how far I hit each club now.

So this is a problem ??!! Such a problem we should all have!
