How do you work to lose the bad habit of turning the right shoulder up and towards the ball after the hips fire, instead of bringing it down and in and keeping the same distance towards the ball? Looking at some video, I've realized that this is the root cause of me going OTT.

I have been working on this problem a lot recently. This is personal to me, and might not help you, but . . .

I started by changing the orientation of my left wrist at the top of the backswing. I was cupping it quite a bit. When I learned to keep it flat (took six weeks for it to feel comfortable, still doesn't feel natural), it became very easy for me to rotate my shoulders around the axis of my spine. My pro said with the left wrist in the position it was, the shoulders almost had no choice but to spin out. Also, it helps to bring your left shoulder under or chin on the backswing or as close it as your flexibility allows.

I practice my shoulder turn without a club. I just take a stance, let my arms hang down, and swing them back and forth in a golf swing way, concentrating on turning the shoulders around a stationary spine. Easy to do without a club in your hands. Once you're used to it, try it with a club.

I have to say, my ball-striking has changed so much it's almost like I'm playing a different game.

This is what I did, and how it feels to me.

If what you are describing is an accurate interpretation of your swing then you need to keep your left arm in more on the downswing AND max out the linear hip motion while keeping your right foot on the ground WHILE keeping your shoulders from moving toward the target. Sounds ez right!

Although I'm happy you are playing well, your left wrist being flat or dorsi flexed has no correlation to the alignment of your shoulders on the downswing. That said, it is WONDERFUL that you are playing well!!!

I posted this in my blog, but I will post it here too. I think I need to do this at least 50x a day.

look at natalie gulbis' swing, that oughtta steer you in the right direction. seriously though. basically, make sure you keep your head behind the ball and not moving toward your target line while pushing your hips out. if you can do that and still come across the ball, you are a bad man.

Think maybe it's best not to just move your right shoulder up and your head back to shallow the angle of approach. You will still slice the ball doing this...if u don't fat it.

Ditto. You hit draws by pushing your hips forward. Heck, you can hit a high draw with EVERYTHING in front of the ball - including your back foot - if you understand some things about the golf swing.

I have the same issue also. Breed's fix, which I guess is technically sound, didn't help me, just caused me to hit fat. I need to get a full turn with my shoulders on the backswing, that helps me keep my shoulders back on the downswing.

Check out You tube 'Tom Watson secret of golf swing', he explains it very well.

I beg to differ, but since that's a whole other topic in and of itself... I'll leave it at that.
