I play a D (G15), 3W (G15), 18.5* 909 D2 and AP2 3 - PW, GW & SW.

I never hit the 3I as I strike the 5W pretty well and always seem to go a soft 5W or a strong 4I to fill the void, but I even seem to hit my 4I very rarely.

I want to add a LW to my set, so dropping the 3I is easy, but I'd also like to add a hybrid (909H), dropping my 4I as well - meaning my 5I would be my longest iron.

If I were to do this would you recommend a 19* or 21* hybrid to fill the void between the 5W and the 5I... or in theory, is this a really bad idea?

A) You need to hit alot of different clubs.
B) Whatever works for you.
C) It's the indian, not the arrow.
D) A 5 wood, 19* hybrid or a lob wedge.

Considering that your 5i is 27*, I would go for something lower, like a 909H 24*, if you really want an aggressive club go for 21*, that way you will end up with:

Scenario 1:(assuming) 15* 3W -> 18.5* 5W -> 21* 3h -> 27* 5i 6* gap between 3h and 5i << Good if you tend to play short irons (6i and under) for your second/third shots Scenario 2:(assuming) 15* 3W -> 18.5* 5W -> 19* Strong 3h -> 27* 5i 8* gap between 3h and 5i, and 0.5* gap between 5w and 3h << No benefit IMHO Scenario 3:(assuming) 15* 3W -> 18.5* 5W -> 24* 4h -> 27* 5i 5.5* gap between 5w and 4h << Best combianation to get you to the green under 200 yrds out. It would depend on your distances on the driver 3w and 5w and the courses you play often. For me, the combination I have works very well. I don't have a 3i (didn't come in the set), I seldom use my 4i (even thought to het a 4h Cobra Baffles DWS 23*), so for me I can reach long par 4's in two, as I can hit (avg) Driver 250, 3w 230 (tee), 3h 200 (off the deck, 215 off the tee), my 4i is about 180 on a good day (yet my 6i is about 170 go figure!!!) 9.5* (D) -> 15.5* (3w) -> 20* (3h) -> 23*(4i) -> 26* (5i)
It's the indian, not the arrow! But it sure is nice to have good arrows!!!!!

Was thinking about this just today. Decided to go with 10.5* driver, 17* 4 wood, 20* hybrid, 24* 4 iron.

I could be pressed to ditch my 5W (I probably hit it the best), but I'd never ditch my 3W!

Do it! Once you go four, you wonder why you didn't before.

Or something like that.

By the way, I split a bucket at the range with a 909H and a G15 hybrid the other day and, while the latter is undeniably much, much uglier, it was just ridiculously easier to hit for me. YMMV.

Take a look at the second-generation TM Raylors. The 21* model might fill the gap between 5W and 4i.

    • Yeah I really want to avoid the rabbit hole if I can  🤣 I'm not sure I'm going to make my lesson Tuesday though, whatever I did to the back of my hand at the range is getting worse, but that's a whole separate issue 🤣
    • Rory becomes the second person after Tiger to pass $100 million in earnings on the PGA Tour. Earnings always favor recency since purses go up. Scottie's first win was in 2022, but he's already at $75 million with "only" 18 professional wins. Rory McIlroy $100 million career earnings PGA Tour, joins Tiger Woods Until Sunday, Tiger Woods was the only golfer in the history of the PGA Tour to surpass $100 million in career earnings. Now he has company.
    • Can't tell 100% from your videos but if your right hand is too far underneath the grip the tendency for most folks is to roll it close through impact little too early. Try putting your right (trail) hand more on the side of the grip instead of underneath at address for a simple enough adjustment. This might help. In general match-ups matter greatly and you might have to make corresponding changes. I wouldn't even begin to suggest whatever those might be. Best to get a good pro to help. Self-diagnosis/experimentation can work for some but for most it's a rabbit hole.
    • Been away for a few weeks. A bit of tumultuous times at work. We had about 4% our exempt workforce laid off. My project from hell won’t let up. Just been burnt out the past couple of weeks and the cold crappy weather. Back at it now. Backswing drill - working on swing path feels. Right wrist bent, more feeling the palm facing away from me. Feeling the hands stay in front of me more.  Downswing- Feel like I make a big long arc with the butt end of the club to my right pocket. More out away from my shoulder. Combining this with recentering for timing. When I make a 60% swing, the clubhead feels like it’s arching from the inside and lower way more.
    • Its tough, "greatest" is subjective, measured in many different ways, while goals and assists are simple numbers.  And even simple numbers aren't always directly comparable across eras, as you mention.  A truly amazing coincidence, if Ovi scores 2 goals in the next 2 games, he'll have exactly the same number as Gretzky (894), in exactly the same number of games (1487).
