I think the fact that your starting at a relatively mature age will help. I first started hacking when I was 14 and didnt understand what dedication meant in golf. I put other things in front of the game and expected results... I took a 3 or 4 break from the game when i turned 18. Im starting the game back up this season and since late april i hit golf balls once a day if im not playing a round.

My point is progression can be measured by how seriously you work on a game. If you are dedicated and put in the time and also become mentally mature you will progress faster than some others.

Some will play the game for 10 years and still have trouble breaking 100 because they dont prioritize the game. I understand its just a game but if someone is wanting positive results the game must be taken seriously.

One short tip. Practice just as much time with putting as anything else. It will cut a lot of strokes off and help when your struggling to get to the green. Once your there a 1 put or 2 put is better than a 3 or 4 putt.

good luck to you

5 monthes in-broke 100 with a 94
6 monthes later-broke 100 again
Best score was an 88 last summer, par 72 course.
I beat my super golfing inlaws from the back tees straight up last summer. I'm pretty proud of that one. I got one by 3 strokes & the other by 13. It's amazing what happens when everyone has to putt out.

Started playing when i was 28. Started having babies in 2004, i'm now 35 & have 3(& barring a positive prenancy test today)that'll be it for kids.
My handicap hasn't dropped hugely. I was an 18 last official recording. I'm hovering around a 20, bogey golfer. I have my moments. But i have alot of fun with it.

speak for yourself. if i didn't drop birdies for all the bogeys i make, i'd be screwed. OP, after two years of playing starting at age 14 i was down to a single digit. from 16 to about 23 i played a lot and had some really good people help me out. i got down to a plus for about two years in that time by playing with some really competitive golfers.

Ive shot 69 only making 2 birdies agaist one bogey. If you can avoid the bogeys, doubles, etc.. through short game play, putting, or whatever, its alot easier to go low than having to make 6 birdies. Saving par is more a dependable and attainable way to score for the ametuer golfer. IMO.
