  1. 1. How do you distribute your putting grip pressure (from the right-handed perspective)?

    • Stronger right hand
      1
    • No intentional pressure difference
      5
    • Stronger left hand

I developed my current putter stroke using a grip in which the right hand had a slightly stronger grip pressure than the left. (I'm right-handed.)

Pros: When I swing well this helps me with alignment and distance control. Using the mental picture of "rolling the ball with your right hand" has helped me.

Cons: It also has a tendency to cause me to sometimes over-use my right hand on the start of my backswing, which is evident by a shakiness on the takeaway and usually results in a yip of the wrist during the swing.

Thus I recently experimented with gripping my left hand a little more strongly than my right hand instead. It eliminated a lot of the potential yips and I seem to be just as accurate alignment-wise, but it's made distance control more difficult. I'm trying to decide whether I should stay with a slightly stronger right grip or change to being neutral or a stronger left grip.

How do you guys distribute the pressure in your putting grip, and why? Is it for simple comfort, or does it help you with aiming accuracy or distance control?

Remember, I'm not talking about a huge pressure difference, I'm talking about a 60-40 split in total pressure. A noticeable difference, but not a huge one.

My hands stay about the same 50-50 but I keep a VERY loose grip on the putter. Alot of people I play with ask me about it.. I can actually wiggle the putter in my hands. I usually do 1-2 putt though. I say find something you like, and stick with it, you will adjust, and get better. Just my $0.02.
