Whats a good golf ball to use for someone with a 82 mph 6 iron swing. Im sure my driver is faster but I havent tested it. I like a soft feeling ball and really good feeling ball, one thats not hard as a rock but doesnt have so much spin that you loose distance

Price range?

I'd go with the Noodle + Easy Distance It got great reviews from Golf Digest, and is made for folks with a slower swing. Great feel around the greens. I've used it for a month, but am beginning to outgrow it. My irons are starting to baloon.

Anything with an overall ball compression of less than saaaay 90. Anything firmer and you may loose distance, workability and useability.

I also like the Noodle. I also like the Titleist NXT tour, the Titleist SoLo, (also closely related DT Roll and DT Carry). Bridgestone has the Treo and also has the new 330 series with a ball for slower swing speeds. The 330 is a premium ball but all the others can be had for $25 and less per dozen. Walmart has "practice" Noodles in bulk packs of 24 for about $15.

I like the Nike Power Distance soft - $10/doz on ebay when buying a gross.

On a Budget: Nike PD Soft or Long / Titelist DT Solo (Carry / Roll are still available at the Wal-Mart / Targets)

Willing to spend a little: Brigestone E6 or E5+ (Dual Layer Urathane 2 Piece) / Titelist NXT or NXT Tour I use Nike and low end Titelist when I'm just playing a few rounds at the local muni. I save the V1's fro the nice courses and it does make a difference when you need a ball to stop on the green.

ive heard that ProV's are for really fast swing speeds, not true? btw, I bought a sleeve of Titleist NXT tour balls to play the other day, I liked them off the tee with the driver but thats about it.

What didn't you like about the NXT?

well ive been playing a srixon soft feel ball that I liked better. The nxt tour felt harsh to me and didnt have any spin, felt very dense as well.

10 years ago when I played I was never a fan of the Titleist balls either, like the wound 90 etc. I did like the Titleist professionals though just too expensive. Back then I used strata balls.

well after reading around it looks like titleist prov1 are my best choice. Just kinda expensive, but I hardly ever loose balls during a round.

if you can afford it go for it. you are right in your previous post though, prov1 are meant for people with faster swing speeds. it has a soft thin cover and a hard(er) compression core which makes it for a great spin ball, but not the best distance ball if you don't have a fast swing speed.

just a bit expensive and you can find other balls that are much cheaper that will give you great performance.

well its hard to say. I've heard people say 100+ or so is a good number to go by for prov1. My driver swing is roughly 113-118 and I don't use a ProV1. not that i can't get the distance i need but because i can get the distance and spin control on balls that are much cheaper.

I've been using the bridgestone E6 after hearing so much about it on this forum. it's a good ball for the price. E7 is nice too.
other balls I've used extensively, Titleist NXT.

well, in brief, the E6 does exactly what I'm looking for at the price that I'm comfortable with.

1. The ball isn't a distance ball but i'm able to get some good distance out of it.
2. Not the most excellent spin control ball but again, for my level of play, I get exactly what i need.
3. Priced just right.
4. Bridgestone markets it as a straight long ball...helps reduce hooks and slices. I'm not sure how much I believe this as if you slice a ball...its going to slice.

Just in general, its a ball I really can't complain about. Spins well, goes the distance, and feels good at impact too.
We'll call it the jack-of-all-trades ball. E7 is another good one that I haven't extensively hit but played a round with.

hmm ok. The only thing that steers me away is the straight ball thing. Wouldnt that mean it doesnt have much spin or soft feel?

not that i've experienced. like i said, its marketed as such but i still get the spin control i need.

don't look too into those details... most balls these days will give you the spin control if you have the swing for it. motteler621, i don't mean this to be offensive but don't worry so much about ball choice. work on your swing and work on getting the spin out of your swing, not the ball. a lot of amateurs put so much emphasis on the ball...play the game and practice to get the spin. the ball isn't going to do it for you.

oh i know but I realized I knew nothing about which ball to buy when I played a round the other day. I kind of just picked one and ended up kind of wasting 8.00 on a sleeve. My swing is actually pretty good now and I know what feel I like in a ball.
