If you're a 15hc I'm guessing you're only hitting a few greens per round. Having a urethane-covered ball is going to give you more control around the greens - exactly where you have a lot of your shots.

I'd look at the Wilson FG Tour. Soft feel, good distance, cheaper than ProV, and has a urethane cover. I wouldn't worry about the distance between balls. If you hit it well it'll go far.

I've played a number of balls and have yet to notice that one is longer than another. It's almost always due to making a good swing. But having green side control, that can you save you shots...as my pinnacle-playing friends show me every week when they chip across the green and then three-putt.

PS - if your ball flight is low I'd look at the e5.

yea Those wilson fg tour balls look pretty good. Im going to test our those and the prov1's. I dont have a really slow swing by any means. Im considered a long ball driver by people I play with that shoot in the mid to upper 70's so I would like to know my swing speed on my driver.

Incorrect Advice !!! The e5 is for golfers who wish to lower their ball flight, not for current low ball hitters!

Urethane covered balls are nicer around the green for just about any level of golfer, but all that touch and feel comes at a price off the tee. I wouldn't worry so much about your swing speed in terms or playing with a more expensive ball, but how accurate and strait you are off the tee and on approach shots. High spin urethane balls will spin (surprisingly ;) a lot more, and will add movement to hooks and slices. They also tend to launch lower off both the driver and irons (as a result of not sliding up the face). Cornbread has it backwards, the Bridgestone E5 is designed to

add trajectory to your shots, but it also sports a urethane cover. I'd try the E5 or the TF Gamer (3 piece ball w/ surprisingly spinny cover) for less than $20/box.

hmm any suggestions on what to try? how fast of a swing do you think would be good for a prov ball?

Anything higher than 85 - 90 MPH. Not sure what the optimum is given that most tour players are 100+, but I've played them for a while with a 90 - 95 MPH swing and love them.

My only caution is make sure you can hit straight before you get this ball. With 392 dimples, she'll hook / slice easy if your not coming into the ball just right. This past weekend I decided to try the e5+ from Bridgestone... even after a recent fitting put me as an e6. I'm just a junky for Urethane covers I guess. Also the chance to play a Urethane ball at $26 / box vs. $45 was somewhat appealing. I'm very impressed with the balls performance and in my round on Sunday I played a two balls (a Titlest ball and the e5.) The e5 ended up +2 score wise which impressed the hell out of me, but let me assure you it had virtually nothing to do with performance of the ball, more or less the operator of the tools. My summary results found that the e5 traveled about 1/2 club back from the v1 from my best tries of making two swings as close to one another as I could and would pretty much stop in place once it hit with almost all clubs other than the driver. The v1 off the driver was about 10 - 15 yards longer but honestly didn't put me out of shot making range. After a hole or two it was easy to figure out how to hit the e5 vs the v1 and I can tell you that on slippery or narrow greens the e5 performed better in my opinion. In fact the best thing about the e5 is you can pick a landing area much smaller because it's more of a carry ball than a roll ball. I couldn't see a noticeable increase in the trajectory of the ball over the v1 which was also appealing.
