I went to the memorial saturday. I watched Tiger of the range twice and a ton of them were out there right after the rain delay. I can't recall all the people I saw, but lots of different swings, set-ups, tempo, just one thing in common for all swings. They are the same pretty much throughout the bag. It was a big that is why I suck so bad moment. I was watching them and realized what makes them great. They make the same move at the same tempo EVERY time.

I followed Sean O'Hair and Adam Scott the most of any on the course. I don't think Sean missed a shot for the 6 holes I followed him.

I went back after that and followed Phil until the weather delay. The sound of his strike was very different from the others. He hit it way past the previous group hit it. Just killed it, but he swung the same for every shot.

One thing I was suprised by was how the aren't as slow as I expected. They do take time in pre shot but they are ready to go when it is there turn. As soon as the putt is moving, the other player is already reading there putt and getting a move on it.

Anyway, great experience, learned alot about how the best play golf, take time but don't play slow, and what they do to get ready for the round. It really helped me understand what I need to do to be better. Ironically, I had the best range session of my life last night.

And most of the guys walk at a pretty fast pace down the fairway. The caddies really have to hustle to stay up.

Tommy Armour III said the best tip he ever received was on the course from Freddy Couples, who walked by after TA III hit a poor shot and said........"Tempo, Tommy, tempo"

"Getting paired with you is the equivalent to a two-stroke penalty to your playing competitors"  -- Sean O'Hair to Rory Sabbatini (Zurich Classic, 2011)

a successful golf swing is basically a chain of positions which happen one after another in the same sequence. tempo is key to lining up this chain of positions so that abcde doesn't become abdce, which may result in a pulled shot, push slice, etc. it doesn't matter how fast you swing, just so long as the sequence is the same every time. hell, you can make a bad swing which was not like the perfect shot you previously hit, but if it is done in the same tempo your miss won't be as bad.

    • Day 133: did a stack session.
    • You can pre-order an R50 here for pretty rapid shipping (these are back-ordered almost everywhere): https://www.playbetter.com/products/garmin-approach-r50-golf-launch-monitor-simulator?ghref=2301%3A700794. This is an affiliate purchase, and I'm willing to kick back lifetime ad-free Supporter membership here on TST or a 90-minute GEARS session for the cost of a regular member lesson (about 1/3 the cost). Also, I'll record a video myself soon when I get an R50.
    • Day 58 - 2024-11-27 Some quick 90-yard shots on a particular hole… before a lesson and testing out multiple Foresight Launch Monitors on GSPro.
    • Day 209 (27 Nov 24) - Easy session with the LW - short pitches replicating greens side up and downs. Finished up with the 7i and hard foam balls - making 1/2 to 3/4 swings with deliberately slowed tempo…from varied lies.
    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
