usually I have a horrendous first two holes, then settle down with my tempo, I feel warmed up, stretched out and good to go!

Golf course designers making front easier than the back, i don't think thats true.. Most courses i play are pretty split even.

And the courses I play we score on the front 9 and just try and hold the line on the back 9. That isn't to say that the back 9 will always eat you up, but if given a chance it will.

There are times when I do score better on the back 9, but that doesn't happen often. One course in particular is at Heron Lakes in Portland Or, the Great Blue which is a RTJ jr championship course. Another one is Stone Creek in Oregon City. Front 9 is just a lot of fun; back 9, you have to control your ball from tee to green.

I say the Front 9 is designed to boost your confidence for the Back 9.

Definitely the back 9 is better. Really anything after the first few holes is fine -- I just try to get through those without butchering the scorecard too much until I get warmed up. Inevitably, I'm +3 (or more) through the first few and feel like I have to play perfect from there on out. Just like my last 9 in league: started double (easiest hole), bogey, double (penalty + 3 putt), then finished all pars (5/5 FHs + 6/6 GIRs + 12 putts... nice and boring). Of course, this depends on how much I'm drinking...
