Woods needs 4 more Majors to equal the record, 5 to take the #1 spot. He's now 34.

Consider the remainder of the top 10 leaders in Major wins:
  • Walter Hagen only won two more after he turned 34
  • Gary Player won four more when he turned 35
  • Tom Watson didn't win another major after he turned 34
  • Arnold Palmer - ditto
  • Gene Sarazen - ditto
  • Bobby Jones - ditto

The three exceptions are:
  • Jack Nicklaus won his final 6 after he turned 35
  • Ben Hogan didnt even start winning his six majors until he was 34
  • Sam Snead - ditto

I'm not saying Woods isn't going to join the 2nd group and NOT do it, but it's gonna get real hard from now on, especially as he himself as said the competition is a LOT harder.
Add to that the injuries, the personal issues....well, you get the picture...

IMO, he NEEDS to kick-start off with two of the following - Pebble Beach / St Andrews / Hazeltine - this year and the heat is off.

I think he will need to win something this year to have a real crack. He's basically got 3 or 4 SOLID years left where he has a chance. Any more wins after 37 - 38 is a bonus imo.

Tiger has always worked hard on fitness, so you've got to believe he will be competitive all the way to 50 and perhaps beyond.. Kenny Perry, Vijay Singh and Tom Watson have shown you can do it, and I'd class Tiger as being at a different level of fitness than any of those players. So, 16 years, 4 majors a year, 16 x 4 = 64 chances to win a Major providing he avoids serious injuries.

You give Tiger 64 chances to win any competition and I'm gonna say he'll do it quite a few times. He could easily win 10 more.

Anything is possible, but right now Woods is barely contending for anything.

I think Tiger will get to 19 regardless of his physical condition and swing woes. He'll do it by shear stubborness. He's just mentally tougher than most of the lackeys on tour. He's got 95% of the players beat on the first tee box, and they all know it.

Vijay's had a bad back for most of his career and played his best golf in his mid 40's.There are ways of managing those kinds of injuries.

It might take a little longer than everyone was predicting, but i think 20 majors is inevitable.

Yeah...he

did have that mental edge....before all the sh!t happened in November. That, along with YE Yang beating him on Day #4 of last year's PGA Championship will have everyone and anyone queuing up to have a final-day pairing with him thinking they've got a legit. shot.

When he is on his game, tiger is practically unbeatable. He wont stay in this funk forever. When he is off, he can still be competative because of the putter. Tiger is too much of a freakish talent not to do this.

Pebble should give a good indication of where Tiger's game and head are at. It's the scene of perhaps his greatest triumph, he should have good memories to fall back on. If he continues to falter, say he finishes in the middle of the pack, it may cause some serious doubts to enter his mind. After all, he lapped the field in the earlier Open at Pebble. He clearly is not the same golfer he was back then, doesn't have anywhere near the same swing, but can he get back his mental edge? One thing for sure, TV will show his every swing whether he's leading or is 20 strokes behind.

Yeah, but how many times do we need to hear this?

Every time he tees it up for a tournament???? There are 2 sides to every coin...

Its true. He isnt just any good golfer. Tiger is a once in a generation phenom, so people are always going to cling to that belief in his raw talent.

Dude, Hogan almost f&%$#@g died in a car crash, and had to tie his legs up so they didn't fall apart while he swung. He still won majors. Tiger won a major barely being able to walk, and grimmacing in pain after every swing. What makes you think injury, or even death, will prevent him from doing it?

I think there's a lot of reasons why he may not get there. Injuries could end his career at anytime, I think he has already peaked and he seems to be getting worse rather than improving, he doesn't have the length advantage he once had, and players don't seem afraid to be paired with him in the final round as they once were. I remember when he came out someone said there are only two things that will keep him from breaking Jack's record--a bad back or bad marriage-- I guess we'll see whether that's true.

all i can say is that if a man can play on a broken foot/barely walk...i think he can at least win 5 more majors in the next 10-12 years. Lets not count tiger out just yet. he may be a cheater and a bad father...but he is crazy athlete and a winner...

I am going to be watching tiger in person on Sunday...hopefully he makes is competitive...
