Should My Shirt Size Bother Me?

I usually try to find a brand of clothing that fits me and stick to it... especially having comfortable clothing on a hot humid day in the midwest. Some of those days makes it uncomfortable to swing in a thick polo. I usually try to stick to the Dri Fit shirts! I have the problem of really long arms, so most of my sleeves are short on me and really baggy around the chest.

Finding a well fitting shirt is great and all...but please don't overlook pants. I see a lot of young people wearing god awful pleated grandpa pants... you can walk into any Gap and find a nice pair of flat front slacks for like $20 on sale.

I would just try on the polo's before I would purchase them, because in my opinion no one looks sleek in a baggy polo. I would just try to fine the size that fits. I know in my case I wear a small or even an extra small.

Who cares how you look? Really I am right there with ya, at 17 years old. But once you realize the only time you need to dress up is when your out meeting a girl, or her parents, life gets easier.

a lot of people care how they look. maybe i do too much but I like to look proper in any occasion that I'm out in public. not to sound condescending at all but you'll find that in the professional world, looking proper is the difference between signing a client versus not even getting 5 minutes with a client. Looking proper includes finding clothes that fit properly and wearing clothes appropriate for the situation.

I agree with you to an extent. If you're playing a round of golf with business and/or professional partners on a private course, apperance DOES matter. On the other hand, if you're knocking around with a buddy on a public course, who cares? I try to gauge my manner of dress by where I'm playing and who I'm playing with. If it's other attorneys or business associates at the country club it's khakis or golf pants and a tasteful, good fitting golf shirt (a bit baggy doesn't offend me). If it's my brother, with whom I frequently golf, it's shorts and a t-shirt. That said, there's such a thing as being too casual. I draw the line at tank tops, cutoff shorts, and grungy "Larry the Cable Guy" caps...to me they're inappropriate on any course, public or private.

No, I think you misunderstood me, I will dress up when the occasion calls for it, however golfing on my own or with close friends doesnt make me feel as though I need to be dressed up. I have my fair share of suits, tuxs and button down shirts. Polos, and cargo shorts too. But there are times that I dont need to be dressed up.

I have this issue too. I'm 22, 5'9" and 165lbs. I'm an avide runner, but I still maintain my muscle. Being a nutrition major, concerned with my health and physique. I've noticed that golf clothes seem to fit way to large, and it seems that the stores don't even carry my size, especially shorts. I wear 30" shorts, but stores only ever seem to carry 32s, so I have to just make that work. I just wish that companies had more product for people my size.

Now I'm 15, and I know this is the time of my life where insecuirities come in and I don't really think much of it, but today I went out and bought a few synthetic polos. I thought they fit alright but when I went home to wash them and take the tags off, I noticed they are actually pretty big on me, it's almost as if I'm wearing my dad's shirt, if I had a relatively small dad. Should this bother me? I mean the sleeves hang pretty low. But I'm pretty sure this is going to be a useless thread, I just wanted to check. Thanks!

Put these shirts back and buy a size smaller. If money is a problem hit Mom or Dad up for some cash. I'm sure they would be willing to fund a son who wants to look nice.

I have the same problem and I am 34. Don't sweat it man. Just get used to different size clothes from different designers.

yes because, we, men, need to always puff our chests out and act like we don't care about clothing and how they fit because peope will think we're just a bunch of gays.

Try them on at the store and be aware that poly shirts won't shrink to an appreciable degree. Put the others aside - they will probably fit fine in a few years and decent polo shirts won't go out of style. Or, wear them for "social" occasions where the fashion standards allow a different style.

Speaking as an old f*rt I think you are right to be concerned about your appearance. You have an opportunity start off meeting people and making a good impression. That guy you play golf with may be the guy who offers you a summer job next year if you look neat and are well mannered on the course.

Exactly. You don't have to be wearing a tuxedo, but look presentable atleast. Proper fitting shirt and pants goes a long ways in giving someone a good impression.
