Hi,

I live on the west coast of Sweden in Europe. Played a lot of golf as a teenager but haven't really played much in 7-8 years. Moved to an area with lots of golf courses last year (6 within 15 kilometers) and the temptation was too strong :). This year I've started playing again and tried to play as much as possible. With small kids I only managed 20-25 rounds this season but hoping to increase that for each year as the kids grow older... :)

I've enjoyed thesandtrap.com for quite some time and just recently found the forums. Hope that I can bring some "outsider" perspectives from the other side of the pond.

Ps. When the Ryder Cup starts on Friday I'll be in a bar in the nearest big city (Gothenburg, Sweden's 2nd largest city) with some friends. Nice beer and nice golf will be great! :)

:) Yeah, women here generally look pretty nice... :)

I'm from the west coast a bit north of Gothenburg so a bit north from Malmö and Flommen. Golf courses down in the south of Sweden are generally better than around where I live but there are some good ones here to.

is one example, a bit too young yet but very promising.

sPinHigh, welcome. Help bust some myths about Sweden for us. Having never been there, and not knowing any native Swedes (why would they leave with those women) I'm curious as to the climate for golf in Sweden. I always figured you might have 4 or 5 good months in Sweden to get your golfing in, but there seems to be quite a few pros. Educate us!

Hehe, yeah the season is very short but it all depends on where in Sweden you live. It is a very stretched-out, "high" country; for example I live closer to Berlin/Germany than to the northernmost parts of Sweden. So in the southern parts I would guess they typically have a 7-8 month season (march-october in the best case), a bit further up north where I live but by the sea we have maybe 6-7 months (april-sept/october). Way up north they have only a few months! But people are inventive and play with orange balls on snowy greens... :) Many golf-nerdy swedes tend to take 1-2 golf-related vacations during the winter months.

Generally I would say the pro swedes are from the mid-to-southern parts and move to warmer countries when they have the money for it. Stenson lives in Dubai and Robert Karlsson in southern France, for example (they are both in the EU Ryder cup team). Fredrik Jacobsson who plays in US on the PGA tour is from where I live though and quite a few of the good women are from my home club (Helen Alfredsson is one example, the Solheim cup captain for Europe).

BTW, I just heard Stenson is gonna play full time on the PGA tour next year and is moving to a newly built house by Lake Nona in Orlando.

    • Tiger’s walking at the PNC and people say he’s not limping.
    • I haven't heard much of anything about it. Faux leather, sure. Biodegradable leather? No. No idea. You're a bit too new, still, to post links.
    • Okay, I'm genuinely curious about this "biodegradable leather" trend in golf. Are we talking snake oil here? I mean, golf balls, clubs... they all end up in the water eventually. Is this just greenwashing, or is there actually a real environmental benefit? And honestly, does it even perform as well as traditional leather? I don't want to sacrifice distance for the planet, you know? Anyone with real-world experience with these eco-friendly golf goods? Spill the tea!
