5 Iron, great price, but senior flex?

Im currently piecing together a set of irons from various places when I find them at a good price. All I have left is the 5 iron. I found one at a very good price but it happens to be a senior flex I was wondering would it be worth picking up or will it be a total waste of time? I was trying to read online what a senior flex would do to my game and I found a chart where it related the distance of your drive to the proper shaft selection. I can drive in the upper 200's. So can anyone help me out here?

Am I missing something?? According to your Sig you have 19 clubs in your bag....how can you have 19 clubs with no 5i?!?! I'm also unsure of what you need help with? I guess the best help I can offer is out of the 19 clubs that you have....which ones do you feel most comfortable with? Sell the ones you do not feel comfortable with and go from there. You have some nice clubs.....not sure what you really need. Maybe lessons?

looks like youve already got a 5 hybrid, not sure why you would need a 5 iron too. That 5 hybrid is going to be much easier to hit, given your listed handicap.

It makes sense. My next question I guess is....do you need a 5i? You have a 5h and you may find that you're not missing the 5i all that much. I played 36 holes that last 2 days and used my 5i about 3 times......and could have gotten away with not using it at all......

If you want one then yes...buy the one you have you eyes on and re-shaft it. SHouldn't cost a lot at all.

I'd reshaft it with the standard X22 shaft in whatever flex you need. If you estimate that the cost will be higher than waiting to find another deal, then i'd keep looking around. I like to have matching shafts on my irons and wedges.

I do have all stiff shafts on the rest of the X-22's. How much does reshafting cost roughly? Ive never had it done but I figured it was pricey no?

Depends on the shaft. What shafts (brand) are on the other irons? Once you figure that out, call some local places and see what they can do it for. Probably shouldn't be too much......$20 including the cost of the shaft....but that's a rough guestimate...... When I break a shaft I use that as my excuse to buy new sticks.....

What would hitting a senior shaft do to my shot anyway?

Stiff shafts? So you don't have the standard uniflex X-22 shaft? Depeding on what shaft you have on your other irons, I would go with the stiff version of that one.

As kingface12 said, it depends on the shaft. example: A Dynamic Gold S300 is about 10$ while a Project X shaft is about 30$.

Yes you are so right it is the uni-flex shaft. I was reading something before I typed that and mistakenly wrote stiff my bad.

Shouldn't cost you more than $20 then for the shaft and labor. By having a senior flex on one of your irons and stiff on the others....it can really screw things up. The shaft in a club often times is BY FAR the most overlooked part of a golf club. It can mean the difference between a hook, slice, balloon, worm burner etc.... Match it up....trust me. You've gone this far in finally finding what you want at the cost you want....don't bail out now!! HAHA!!

You're right. I was just wondering if it would be a huge difference and it seems it is.

I am still confused why you've got so many redundant clubs in your bag. Having a 7 wood, 5H and 5 iron seems a bit dumb to me.

      I know one recent college grad who's trying the same thing.  This guy was a Division III All-American, went on to play one year at Division I LSU, and is not working hard.  He won the Gulf States Open, a pro event, and made it to the second stage of the Korn Ferry Tour School late in the fall.  And didn't make the cut to get to the final stage.  I won't talk about swing or play stuff, but I believe there are a couple of things that are essential.  Obviously, talent, and drive, or work ethic.   I can't tell you how to do it, but you HAVE to get through it.  Golf is going to be your life, and it takes lots of work. Two more things that are really critical.  You'll need the facility to be able to practice.  My young friend stayed in Baton Rouge, as a past player on the team he can still use the LSU practice facilities.  And money.  Its unlikely you'll be able to work a full-time job and practice the way you will need to.  You'll probably need backing, from a parent, from a consortium of friends or club members., something to support you. Good luck, its not an easy path, but anything is possible.  Another young man from our area, Mike Brennan, just won for the first time on the "big" PGA Tour.

      Get more comfortable with being uncomfortable. If you don’t like practicing then give up now. You don’t have the passion to become a pro. Unless that mentality changes you won’t do well under stressful situations.    Call the PGA Tour and ask. They probably have resources available.
