Although gettting better...(especially with the recent purchase of Maxfli's patents)... Taylormade balls are at the low end of the technology spectrum. I think they had 9% of the Golf Ball Market last year. Their LDP design improved the previous ball flight weaknesses, but they still trail Callaway, Titleist, Bridgestone and Srixon in term of performance and sales.

Well, I'm not Iron Byron, so I will comment from

personal experience. The Penta TP is longer for me (SS around 90 mph) than any other premiuom ball. Period. And it's no less accurate. It is both longer and more acurate off the irons for me. It has more predictable spin for chipping and pitching than any other ball I've tried. It putts like a dream. Other premium balls may hit one or two points, but none hits tham all. BTW... quoting last years stats is meaningless since the Penta wasn't even widely available until after the first of the year. Also it would be nice to see DATA, not just your statement that you have the facts. I don't know you from Adam. I don't really care about market share. All that points to is that players buy marketing hype. Titleist has been hammering golfers for so long that some guys barely even believe that any other ball exists. I play Penta simply because it works better for me. I played Titleist for at least 20 years, but now I play Penta. I've personally tested virtually all of the premium balls (by buying and using a dozen at a time, not just one or 2 balls) and none of them performs as well for ME as the Penta.

I ocasionally use taylormade Penta balls. They offer greenside spin, longer distance off the tee and more control. For me these and titleist prov1s are the best in the game.

Pentas are great, they feel like butter off awedge
Can someone differ black/red for me
My understanding is black = prov1x - more distance bit harder bit straighter opposed to the red - more spin - lower launch - kinda like a prov 1
or do i have this backwards

The Red vs Black issue is a little more complicated, as older Red/Blacks were sort of reversed compared to recent versions (with LDP). I play both btw and have been playing them for years. For the recent LDP versions, they don't quite compare so easily to ProV1/V1x. The TP Black launches higher, feels a tad firmer, but actually spins a bit MORE off a full iron. The TP Red has slightly lower launch, slightly softer feel, but slightly less iron spin. I don't think either spin nearly as much as a ProV1. Both are probably similar to the ProV1x in the spin category.

I think if you have a high ball flight or tendency to balloon some shots, the Red is preferable. With my slower swing speed (Driver ~90-100 mph) i usually get a bit more carry & distance with the Black; on windy days i go with Red instead. Hope this helps

I never really like the TP red and blacks. Brought 2 dozen because they were 2 for one, got 1 lot of blacks and 1 lot of reds. Not as good as the Prov's imho.

I have not tied the penta, but looking forward to it because alot of my mates, (+3-3 HI) have rated them very highly! Also the guy who I buy all my golf gear off said people who have brought them have been very happy with them!

So far TP Red/Black LDP are the tops of any ball i've played, in performance and cost. Great price, but I've chosen to play them over more expensive balls that were offered to me purely basde on my experience. The TP Black/Red jump off the face, sit aggressively, and have been more resilient for me than ProV1s. All the top end urethane balls are stellar, with minor vatiations from each model of ball-so it really comes down to marketing and cost. Titleist is the marketing juggernaut of golf-so it's a tough group to break into. The other companies have to work that much harder to create a product that stands out. The TP/Black and now the Penta show that TaylorMade has the resources and cojones, and the NIKE One Tour and Tour D balls are outstanding (and $30/box).

in my experience the TP's spin/check significantly more than an NXT Tour, esp on chips/pitches.

Remember the TP's used to be the "premium" Taylormade balls, with an original price point similar to ProV1's. the only reason they're cheaper right now is that they are being phased out to make way for the Penta's. Get 'em while you can...

Played a penta for the first time yesterday at a par3 course. It spun plenty imo on full swing shots but not as much as a proV1 on short pitch shots. They still spun and felt ok but i still prefer a ProV1. I have yet to try any of the other TM balls but have really been eyeballing the TM black. Might try some before the year is out but im done buying balls until i lose all my prov1s.

Loving the Penta's!

Played 4 times this past week with them... For me they spun less off the driver than Pro V1's, just as much off of full irons, and about the same on chips/pitches.

Love the feel with the putter as well

Actually you can get their equal currently at Golf Galaxy and Dicks for $14 a dozen. The Maxfli C3 Gold & C3 Black. Same exact ball, same specs, from same mfg line, just stamped differently.

The Penta and the TP series balls have some of the worst driver accuracy testing results of any ball, due to the effects of their visable seam. We are shown a lot of spin test results but rarely accuracy results. I have seen such and the Seamed Taylormades ranked almost dead last in Driver accuracy out of 63 balls tested. I also have a friend who performs ball and club tests for a major independant company (they too use the Iron Byron machines) and he confirmed that the Taylormade balls lack the performance of the other major ball mfg's . He also confirmed that seamed balls are more erratic during flight. I not trying to hack TM... just presenting the facts. To each his own.
