I am allways interested in what I use and why, which club to chose and how many times I use a certain club during a round.

Yesterday I made such a counting during a round of 78 .... (good round for me)

As with all of us the most club used was the putter : 34 putts (not too bad, but I am sure I can improve most in putting ...... ).

Others :

8 Driver
6 2-iron
1 3-iron
5 4-iron
6 5-iron
1 6-iron
2 7-iron
8 8-iron
1 9-iron
2 PW
1 GW
3 SW

I note must be made ..... I use very often a 2 iron of the tee (where others might go for a driver, 3 W or Hybrid) and another one is that I do about all my inside 100 yds shots chipping or bumb and run with an 8 iron. PW/GW/SW is only used for some special shots and sand of course.

I have some fairway woods and some hybrids but most of times I leave them out of the bag.

There are a lot of 5 and 4 iron shots, because they are my second shot on the long par 4's, which we have a lot and 3 of our par 3's are about 170 yds.

Of course just one round (and a good one) says not much, but at the range it helps me decide where my focus must be.....

Currently I work a lot on accuracy and ballflight with the long irons and of course on putting.

I know a lot of golfers invest a lot of their $$$ in wedges and a lot of their time in learning to manage distances with 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 etc. swings ..... in my normal average rounds I have so little use for all those special shots.

How is this with you ? It might be interesting to analyse this more often !

my mid irons are crucial to a good score for me.
I will normally hit GIR but I'll be miles away from the pin, if I can work on accuracy with them i'll lower my scores a lot.

I keep stats for all my rounds. Over 12 rounds on my home course this year I have used my 5-6-7 irons a total of 24 times. Only 2 shots a round with mid irons. However I have used my PW and SW 136 times. MAkes me wonder if I should ust remove a mid iron and add a gap wedge. My home course isn't very short but I'm long of the tee so all the par 4's other than 1 is a wedge for the 2nd shot for me. The par 5's usually 4-hybrid or 4 ron for 2nds. There's one par 3 at 180 yds which is a mid iron every time. The rest of them are either in the 150 range as well as one at 215.

I haven't heard of anyone actually skipping over a number with their irons but I'm really considering it

Same with me ..... I use the 3 iron very little, but it is great on our 9th hole (205 yds par 3) ..... depending on the wind direction, it might also hit a 4 or a 2 iron from the tee. And if I have a really good lie and even stance I use it for long second shots at par 5's now and then ........

There will always be circumstances you need just the left at home iron. I prefer a full set, but without a 3W or 5W ..... from the rough I prefer a hybrid above a long iron, so I also carry two of these ..... the 16* from really good lies and the 20* instead of a 3 or 4 iron from the rough ...... both are also excellent from tight lies - bump and runners.
