Ever since I started playing golf I've struggled with maintaining tempo and controlling power. I'm a fairly sturdy build (grew up on a dairy farm) and I've never had an issue with strength, distance, power etc. Not surprisingly though, what I find myself struggling with is maintaining a smooth tempo and keeping the throttle in the 80%.

When I can keep it "throttled down" I hit the ball just as far if not farther but my accuracy goes up dramatically. During warm up I focus on doing things slowly and take a lot of nice easy smooth swings. I also try to take my practice swing with my feet together. Despite those efforts, I find that it gradually ramp up and find myself swinging way too hard.

What drills, tips or swing thoughts do you use to keep your swing within the speed limit?

Try hitting some wiffle golf balls. They don't go very far, but they reflect the sweep of a given swing. After 3 or 4 wiffles, you're swinging nice and smooth.

Focus, connect and follow through!

What helped me was narrowing my stance a lot, feet about a foot apart all the time, even when playing. But I see you're trying that. I don't do it just for practice, I do it all the time now to control my overswinging, when I overswing, I lose my balance and I know to back it down with a narrow stance.
