I'm buying a newer driver to replace my Titleist 975J... a custom fit driver that I used to be able to hit a mile.

Since I came back from a long layoff last year, and between getting older, and a little heavier, my swing is not quite the same. So... that being said, I've decided to upgrade, and hopefully get a little more distance. Since I can't get custom fit for a 905R these days, gonna buy one off ebay and stick a new shaft in it... or get one with a decent shaft that's a good place to start.

Question... which shafts do you have or have you tried in your driver and how much did they affect the ball flight.

I'm thinking about getting a Diamana Blueboard 63 S... I like a light shaft, and I like to hit a high ball.

Cheers, Allan

I dont have the R, but the T, as I prefer a smaller head (only 400cc)
I have the Pro Launch Axis RED 60g Stiff inserted at full borethrough (it plays to 271 cfm or cpm...whatever it is) which makes it an X Stiff
i really like the ball flight of this shaft
its a little higher, but piercing, wind does not affect it (I struggle w high ball flight too)

i was not a fan of the BB - smooth shaft, but waay to high of ball flight for me and it ballooned on me huge
i found Diamana shafts to play a stiffness that was one weak (S=R, X=S etc..)
so tip accordingly or buy a stiffer shaft than your used to

the 905 series are awesome heads, hope you find a good one!

yeah, I really like the 905T, but with the Titleist drivers, the difference is not that noticeable, at lest to me.

Interesting about the BB, also interested if anyone has or has used the UST V2 65g shaft... seem to be plenty available, just wondering why?

Cheers, Allan

When i used the 905R, it also had a ust pro force V2 shaft in it. I still believe it was the best driver i have ever used. I have also hit the head with a adilla vs proto by you shaft in it and greatly preferred the Proforce. The club just seemed easier to hit with it. The combo of that shaft and head seem to be made for each other.

late reply I know... but still trying to decide between the 66 and 76g UST Proforce V2 shaft. It looks like the 76g was the "stock" shaft. Is this weight you were referring to when you said "made for each other"?

I've always hit the "stock" upgrades shafts in Titleist drivers pretty well. I also wonder if the larger head weight (compared to a 65g shaft in my 975J) will make the club feel roughly the same becuase it's balanced by the slightly heavier shaft ... maybe I'm being too anal???

    • Day 7: got out my chipping net and worked on chipping in the living room for a solid 15 minutes. Worked on mostly low shots, but mixed in a couple of high shots as well.
    • Day 228 4-4 More hip/chest turn and wrist arching. Working on hinging wrist a bit later. Foam balls.
    • Day 27 (4 Apr 26) - Worked with grandson on basic pitches/punches in the back yard with varied irons/wedges.  Wrapped up the day rolling some putts on the 30’ carpet I can set up in the yard to give varied terrain - and this carpet rolls almost too easy. A great way to figure a read and know that pace has to be near perfect to get in the hole.
    • A bit of a struggle today.  Just some thoughts/musings.  For the backswing, it is like I am never going to be moving on from this. I don't know if I can ever get to the point where the backswing isn't like over 1.5 seconds in duration. Which is probably not ideal. I would like to get to the point where I can just fling the arms back and up.  I have to feel like my hands are going to hit my right thigh from P1 to P2. If not then they like to move 2-5 inches towards the ball from P1 to P2. Then it's just bad from there. This feeling is my hands not gaining much depth, just maintaining depth from set up. From the DTL view, the hands head towards the camera.  While I am doing that, hinge the crap out of the club with my wrist only. Hinge in a way that the club is pointing at the camera at P2.  From P2, lift the hands straight up. I can get here, and still roll the club inside and get it way too shallow.  With the downswing. There isn't much here. I still can't get the flow of this or the sequencing of this to line up. It doesn't help that hinging from P1 to P2 just throws off my entire timing as well.
