Nick, bitter blue much?

Firstly, i may live in Walkden now, but i was born in Droylsden which is all of about 2 miles away from Eastlands.

Secondly, you may now be in the Greater Manchester area (county) but not actually in Manchester (city), hence you not actually being from Manchester but from Trafford but whatever. Thirdly, you being scum is not down to envy, its down to the fact that you're our fiercest rivals and that i just physically hate them, we're scum to a lot of your fans, Everton to Liverpool and vice versa, Arsenal to Tottenham and vice versa, are they all down to jealousy? no its because we're local rivals. Finally, if we're not going to do anything with us 'splashing the cash' then why is everybody in football talking about us? if you weren't scared of us overtaking you then there wouldn't be all of the media hype surrounding us and you lot having more digs at us than normal. we used to be little city and not worth a mention now you are continually having things to say about us. the fact that we are now the richest club in the world with unlimited amounts of cash and you being in millions, no wait, billions of pounds in debt just means that it won't be long until we are challenging for honours (this year) and being the biggest club in the city if not the world (eventually in many years time). Fergie sign him up, Fergie Fergie sign him up!

Well, to address your geographical concerns, I was born in Hope Hospital, which is a couple of miles or less from Old Trafford, so I guess that justifies my choice of team on the grounds of proximity? Unless you're a nipper, City were at Maine Rd, not Eastlands when you were born and by the way, Droylsden is in Tameside not the City of Manchester.

I'm not sure what to say about your obsession with scum but it sounds like a throwback to the days of football hooliganism. Sure there are rivalries, but some of my friends are supporters of the other team and I don't view them as scum. Each to their own I guess. Money. Granted, City now have a very wealthy sugar daddy and this has attracted a lot of media interest, so of course people are talking. It's just a bit of hype. Money alone does not buy success - case in point City spent ~120million quid last year and what do they have to show for it? Many other teams have tried and failed to buy their way to success, because they didn't have the right ingredients in place. The fact that City have suddenly acquired some deep pockets simply means is that you end up paying over the odds for average players (read Lescott, Adebayor, Robhinho) who deliver nothing. Just because there is money there, it doesn't mean that big names will come running, in fact City have been linked with a whole host of names who have either moved somewhere else (where there's a better chance of success) or stayed put. You need to have a solid foundation in place, a good manager and also an owner who trusts the manager to make the right decisions. Does City have any of these 3 things right now? The answer is no - if City win nowt this coming season (highly probable), they'll be looking for yet another new manager! As I said in my earlier post, no doubt City will be in the mix this year, but I really don't see them challenging at the top. At least there'll be a couple of entertaining derby games for y'all again

In the end Nick I'm not going to get into an argument with a city fan as it would be pointless but I was amused that you thought that on the basis of pure hatred people would be enticed into supporting Manchester City! What a fantastic advertisement.

Why is it that city fans must hate, why is that the city way?

naaa matey, dont get me wrong, i only hate the football club not the fans (most anyway), a lot of my best friends are utd fans and i dont call them scum, this is going wayy over the top now, its a term widely used by everybody about there most hated rivals, like i said most utd fans call us scum (once again, not the people just the club)

about the location, again im not having a pop at you or the fans, i just think that its funny how a team who are not from the city of Manchester can call themselves 'Manchester' Utd. You can support whoever you want obviously and i have no problem about that (hence the whole start of this, me asking an American to support us, pretty sure he doesn't come from Manchester :) ), i too was born in Hope and am 18, and lived around just over 3 miles from Maine Road, sure you lot get criticised for having fans from London, China, etc. everywhere except from Manchester, but that doesn't really bother me (except for the 'fans' who continuosly change their teams, how can you support one team this year then another the next? thats the down side to our future success, i already know a number of people who were 'fans' of you lot and now for some reason support us which annoys me, i have nothing whatsoever against 'real' utd supporters). now the money thing, in the first year we bought Robbie, SWP, Kompany, Bridge, Bellers and Given, with the last three coming in in January and we finished 10th, in that summer we brought in Tevez (waheyyy), Ade, De Jong, Barry, Lescott, Toure, Adam Johnson and Vieira, with the last two coming in in January and finished 5th (a whisker away from 4th) losing 7 games (the same as you btw) and the only reason we wasn't challenging towards the top of the table is down to an unexplainable run of 7 draws against the likes of Fulham & Burnley at home, so its pretty safe that we are on a steady progression upwards. also about the players who delivered nothing, Robinho in his first season with us he scored 14 goals (4th top scorer in the league) with a number of assists which i wouldn't call that a flop (speaking of flops how's Berbatov?), and ok last year wasn't very good for him but he was injured for practically most of the time he was with us and played 10 games (most were a few minutes as sub) while he was still nursing a stress fracture of his ankle in a world cup year. Ade scored 14 goals for us last year in 26 games, thats more than 1 every other game, thats not too shabby in my opinion. and Lescott only played 7 games for us last year through injury so how anybody can make a decision on how he is fairing is beyond me. i think you're right about the manager aspect, we need to keep one in rather than sacking them every other week but Mancini is an excellent manager, as he has proved elsewhere, and as long as he does respectably this year he'll be here for a while. Anyways, its going to be a very, very entertaining season this year with a number of teams challenging rather than it just being between you and Chelsea, i actually cant wait!

This is one point I agree with you on 100%, it's definitely going to be tougher than ever!

I can't wait for the season to get started after the disappointment of the world cup!

    • How would you change the rule to make it more "fair", and still be consistently interpreted and enforced?  It may not be perfect, but as a referee I can watch a player and look at the ground surface and make a ruling.  How can it be changed to address different players and their individual height, weight, and shoe size?
    • A bit old.. but this rule is kind of unfair ...  Lets say that you have Emiliano Grillo and Darren Clark playing together on a PGA event and on one hole both hit the ball to the middle of the fairway only 1 inch apart. When they arrive to the ball Darren take his stand and water comes out from the ground and remains there so he procceds take a free drop on a dry area and hit his shot.  Afterwards Grillo takes his stance in the same spot as Clark, but because he is a lot ligther, no water araise from the ground. According to the rules he is not allowed a free drop from the same spot darren had a free drop seconds before. I would love to see this happenning live on TV. Can an argument be made by grillo? could and official use the "spirit of the rule" to let him have a free drop?
    • Day 84 (24 Jul 25) - Weekly nine hole round cancelled as the course was tied up with a ladies tournament.  No worries - set up with the 54deg wedge and worked on varied shots with green side focus in mine (those nGIR's).  Worked between high floaters and low spinners from varied lies replicating the types of lies I typically see on the courses around here.
    • I meant lb for lb - so yes I agree it's wheel weight. How would you go about explaining that to someone? Perhaps the rotational inertia being higher with heavier wheels and the rotational inertia of the wheel requiring more torque to make its angular acceleration increase at the same rate?
    • Day 7: Had a virtual putting lesson with @iacas. Spent some time afterwords working with the metronome.
