yeah, i know, i saved for an entire year...trust me, I don't see $700 very often, and probably shouldn't have spent it on a driver....but I did get two boxes of ProV1s thrown in for good measure....too bad I have already lost them all this summer.

It was really weird because I got the money from a family member who passed away. I wasn't sure what to do with it. So, I bought a driver and named it after her....(Dottie). I hit it real well, for me, and hoping she keeps me in the fairway.

BTW Dirk, you must have gotten some kick butt deals for your sticks with whats in your bag....can you teach me how. I did get a steal on my MP-60 ($350 been used twice), but I admit I took it on the chin for the driver....but man I LOVE THAT SHAFT, so easy to hit accurate.

my scotty cameron santa fe putter. i bought it used on ebay, then sent it away for restoration. it is perfect now, down to the lie angle and loft. i even had it personalized with my initals, painfill and the pro platinum finish. all said and done over 300 dollars. my driver is next in cost (with shaft) but i've always been behind the curve aesthetically with drivers and buy year old models after theyve been reduced. 460cc is just too big for me

The irons. I just got them on closeout. I was looking for a set with easy to hit long irons ALA G2HLs off the FW. I hate being 170-200 yds out & having no option at the green. I'm not a fan of the short irons, but that'll be addressed at a later date.

I got everything for free, but I bought a bag so the most expensive thing is the bag itself lol.

I spent $100 on a used R510 and it was a great move up from the old steely i have before this one. Although I'm not sure I get much more distance from it even with the oversized and the graphite shaft.

Looking to upgrade to a hibore pretty soon but have been reading some gotta ge the shaft fitted reviews. There goes buying it off ebay.

Most expensive club in the bag is KZG Gemini Driver with Matrix Shaft.

I am convinced that it is the shaft more than the head of a golf club that makes the most difference in distance.. Any thoughts on that subject???

Of course proper swing mechanics is a must... Guys in my group play $700.00 plus drivers down to $100.00 drivers and with the exception on one young Airforce Major that consistently bombs his driver 280 and straight (the major uses a custom fitted driver with a high end shaft) I can use my Sonartec 5 wood with Matrix shaft and put drives 240 to 250 in the fairway consistently.

BTW my next most expensive purchase will most likely be a good wedge. I am looking at Zodia does any one have experience with this brand of club?

    • Never practiced golf when I was young and the only lesson ever taken was a driver lesson. I feel like I'm improving every year. However, the numbers don't support my feeling about improving. I usually drop to 12-13 during the summer while playing the familiar courses around home and then go on golf trips in the fall to new courses and increase to end the year between 15-17. Been a similar story for a number of years now but hey, it's the best thing there is in life so not too bothered but reaching 9.9 is the objective every year. Maybe a few lessons and practice could help me achieve it since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, just playing and never practice.
    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
    • Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
