So right now I have a 2004 TM R7 Quad 9.5 with a stiff shaft. SS is about 97-103. I tried a ping g10 in Roger Dunn and it felt a million times better. It felt good in my hands at address, better on the backswing etc.. etc.. blah blah.. I havent messed with the slice/draw weights and have it set up now for high trajectory.
My misses are slices and pushes coming from over the top and lots of hits off the toe. I cant hit this g10 off the toe if I tried (IN THE STORE) God knows what happens when I get on a teebox though.
I guess I want some of you guys to tell me my 6 year old TM is fine. It is a bit smaller. 60cc or so smaller than a G10. So even a G5 would help I think. I paid $75 or $50 for the TM. Do you think it would actually help my game? My irons have been improving and my short game is ok. Im just NEVER in the fairway right now unless I get a lucky bounce off of a tree or something.
And no this post isnt 3 years old, I just refuse to buy NEW new clubs until I can get under 18 HDCP. Im at about a 25 right now. Should I just get a G5 and experiment? I bought G5 clones for fairway woods and I can do no wrong with them. And they're not even real Pings.

Its not the machine.. Its the operator.
Its not the tools.. Its the carpenter.
Its not the driver.. Its the vehicle.
Its not the bike.. Its the rider.

Yeah, new clubs should help :D

Ok seriously though.. If you hit the new driver, you hit better, and it feels better, then get it. That is if you can get it at a good price. If your club is 6 years old, it wouldn't hurt to upgrade. Lots of golfers tend to upgrade every 1-2 years from what I have seen.

Fixing your swing faults is the only long term solution and you have a good driver right now, but I'm a huge fan of clubs that offer forgiveness. If you feel like a new driver can lessen the result of shots that don't hit the sweet spot, then go for it. 50% of this game is 90% mental. If you feel more comfortable you're bound to swing better.

You're right of course. I'm just wondering if the extra 60cc and maybe a different weight or whatever can really help someone who seems lost with his driver right now. I know its not the driver thats going to magically fix my swing. Im working HARD on my swing. Im just thinking a little extra forgiveness may make a decent difference.

Maybe go from 9.5* to 10.5* while I'm at it? I think I'll check the used bins for G2's and G5s.

Going to a 10.5* driver will help, but considering your swing speed I'm not really convinced you need a stiff shaft. I think a regular flex will work for you, but a swing analysis by a professional would be a good move for you. You should have no trouble finding a good deal on a G2 or G5 driver if that's the direction you're looking. Try www.3ballsgolf.com . I was just on their website today and saw them starting in the $50 range. They'll even throw in a free one year subscription to Golf Digest with your order.

I'd suggest going to a higher lofted Driver. At the LEAST a 10.5 but a 12 would probably do you better. You won't lose any noticable distance and if you straighten out you'll gain it...

Most amatuers don't need a 9.5, especially if you have a highish handicap...

I put some work into it last night and it seemed to be going fairly straight on most shots. It'll work I just think there are some more forgiving drivers out there. Every once in a while I'll hit a 6 foot high laser of a fade. Pretty cool to watch when there are small mounds at the range and it barely clears them but definitely not a golf shot. I got the R7 cuz it was $50 and a TM driver. Can you go wrong there? Not rilly. Plus I thought the ability to play with the weights for a higher trajectory might work. But I dunno. I think I might eventually trade it in and spend the $30 more for a G2 or G5 and see if I like em better. No rush now though.
I had to look at that screw up post twice before I caught it too. You guys are reading my topic better than I am. lol
