The few times I've played, with my new irons, have not been good. My new wedges I am hitting acurately. Awesome. My drives are very good. Yet my irons I am spraying right and left. I have been taking a few lessons, indoors, because I am not following through at impact, was told I was decelarating. All this intailed was me hitting balls with me wrist only, then gradually working to a full swing. I want to take other lessons, yet what? Should I find a pro, at a range, then take a package, so many lessons in so many days? Or, I found a golf school upstate from me, where they would have an "on course playing" lesson, for $120(if I can remember) for 9 holes, or double that for the full 18. They have a school, but I can not afford the few thousand $$ for the course and can't afford to lose 3 days pay for taking off from work. So for the "playing" lesson I wouldn't mind going away for the weekend. Or, would anyone have other suggestions?

Are your current lessons not working? Or are you just looking for something that is outdoors? Are your lessons always indoors?

I think you should just work with a pro to get the problems worked out. I wouldn't do the "playing lesson" until I had my swing a little more fundamentally sound and was making better contact. IMO, the "playing" lesson would be better to work on course management, club selection, etc....

I don't really put time limits on lessons like 2 lessons every 2 weeks. I just get a lesson, go to the range and work on what I was told, and then when I feel like I have gotten the change engrained, call and schedule a new one. It might be 2 weeks or it might be a month.

I had only 3 lessons, to learn to accelerate through the ball, all indoors, at the proshop where I was fitted for my irons. The shaft monitor showed no movement in the shaft when I hit the ball. But the instructor told me everthing about my swing was fine. But I was hitting into a net. Yes, I guess lessons outdoors would be best, to see the actual ball flight. And hopefully at a course, with a natural grass range, not off a mat. I am afraid of messing up the lie angle of my forged Mizzies. 3 lessons, and 5 times at the range, hitting off a mat.

This is the same thing I do. I don't want to take another lesson until I have fixed what was told to me in the first lesson. Otherwise, it's just a re-cap of what was told to me last lesson, and I don't think I would be getting my moneys worth.

Makes sense. But I still then need that one lessson, by someone reputable, to tell me what to work on for hitting the ball straight.

What part of NY are you in?

Michael Jacobs in Manorville (Long Island). He's a top-notch instructor. I'll pm you a link since I don't know if posting one is against the rules.

    • I have had the flu recently which gave me plenty of time to pore over Joseph Mayo’s instagram. I have hit a ton of shots each day on carpet and a little started how easy this shot is to make. Key thought for me is bring the club “no closer to the earth.” That really resonated with me. If I really steepen the attack angle I can hit my 58* lob wedge barely an inch or two off the ground and a repeatable distance. I don’t recommend this but tried it to what the end ranges are for angle of descent. I actually think a 62*-64* wedge might be even better for this shot.
