heres the deal
I need a 215+ club from the turf
I have a Mizuno 13.5º 3w now that is the t****, love it....but its more of a backup driver for tight par 4's
I dont have anything to reach par 5's in 2 or on long par 3's (over 215yds)
5i is 208 MAX and 4i is 215 MAX

3i is out of the question and so are all types of hybrids

so.......do i ditch the strong 3w for a 15º 3w and bag driver & 3w
or do i keep the back up big dog and buy a 18º (ish) 5w????

i want to buy either a TM R9, Superfast or Mizuno MP (new 2010 model w Fubuki shaft) for the replacement, regardless of what i choose

thanks for your input

I put my Ping TiSi Tec 12* strong 3 in the closet a few weeks ago and started using a Ping G2 14* 3 wood. I could consistently get 210-220 out of the strong 3 and I don't consider myself that good a hitter. Much to my surprise I find I'm getting about the same distance with the 14*. Based on my own personal experience I'd go with the 15* 3 wood but I like to have about a 4* or greater gap between my driver and 3 wood. When my driver was a Ping TiSi TEc 8.5 the strong 3 fit the bill perfectly but now I have a 10* driver, which is why I went from the strong 3 to the regular 3. I also have a 17* 5 wood that I can reliably hit 175-180. Assuming your driver loft to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 10-11 degrees that's the direction I'd go.
My Implements of Destruction (carried in a Hoofer Lite bag):

DRIVER: Big Bertha Diablo 10 degree draw, Aldila regular flex
FAIRWAY WOODS: G2 14 degree 3 wood & 17 degree 5 wood
IRONS: S59 3-PWWEDGES: M/B 54, 58, & 60 degree PUTTER: I Series Anser 4 (or G5i Anser, Anser 2F, or original...

right now im set up this way:

Driver-265+
3w-240+ (tee only)
GAP HERE
4i-215
5i-208

i could handle losing a few yds off the tee w a 15º 3w, if i could hit it from the turf around the 220 mark
but i think i would stil be hitting the 15º further than that....maybe.....not sure

kind of leaning towards the 5w route - as a found a new F50 w the EXSAR Stock Stiff Shaft (not sure why, but this shaft works great for me) on ebay cheeeeaaap!

hmmm....

heres the deal

Glancing at your sig man, you change your equipment out often! No more blades or rife putter huh?

If you are hybrid adverse, I'd keep the strong 3 and put a 4 wood in the bag. It'll be shorter, easier to hit from tough lies and give you the versatility you want.

you never mind about the equipment changing.....it's a diesease that shouldnt be talked about.....EVER ;)

yes ditched the blades man....long story, but i basically lost the 4 and 5i going there - which killed me these Titleist's are mint today i hit my 5i (first round w them) exactly 207 yds to a pin tucked behind a bunker at the back of the green (208 yds) and it stuck and held at about one foot...and for the record, yes i birdied could never do that and never hit a pure shot like that w the blades 4 or 5i.....im the worst single digit ball striker you'll ever meet had a 4w or two...never warmed up to them, and it was still pretty long 5w might be the ticket? dunno.......

I'd personally stick a 15* 3wood in there. I put away my Callaway X-Tour FW 13* awhile ago and stuck my 15* 909F3 in there in replacement. I found that distance wise, i did lose a bit of distance but the 15* i was able to hit more consistently off the fairway.

I'm starting to really not like my hybrid so i'll be putting in my 18* 5 wood in replacement as well, and sticking my 3 iron back in.

I was in honey moon stage with my hybrid and now i can't hit it worth shit.

This reply assumes you don't hit strong 3W off fairway...

5W is a nice club; gets distance, pops stuff out of the rough, and a better golfer like you could probably stop it quickly if needed. Could you get a 15* 3W and add 5W? Your Bag summary appears to have just 13 clubs now.

Also consider a 19* TM Raylor instead of 5W; boat hull sole minimizes turf contact, and it could pop you out of rough or be useful from fairway. More fairway wood than hybrid.

Focus, connect and follow through!

Judging by your gap, I would say a 5w would be your best bet...

Only joking man, if I had my way I'd have a garage full of sticks. I'm back and forth right now on picking up AP-2s for my 3-5 for those days when the swing never seems to fall into place.

Good find on the 3w, after recently hitting a f-50 with a NV shaft, I love the Mizuno fairways.

I doubt you'll see a big reduction with the 15*, I'd say go that way. Having hit the MPs, I think you may be equal in length to your current setup because I found them to be VERY long.
