The verdict is in...
Nike VR Split Cavity 3-PW with DG S-300 shafts in them are the best irons I have hit that are available to date.
For me these irons are the ideal match for ME . Now for others, maybe not, I know its all about preference and how the club feels for YOU and this is the club that fits.

I went through a great deal to find a club that was right for me. First I skipped getting fit and just hit a few clubs and said okay. Now after about two months my swing is corrected and I need stiff shafts(6 iron 91mph). I knew I had to go back and do it over and I am glad I did because my game has gone from rusty 3 iron to Trusty and my swing is 90% where I want it and for now that is great; I was out of golf for 4 years.

I encourage everyone to go and take the time to get fit! Its so worth it because after all, you are going to be swinging these things week in week out and growing into them.

Today at the range was a good day. I took my time and kept my tempo smooth back and on the way down and made sure I took a practice swing thinking of what I had to do to execute a good shot and it paid off. I started at PW then on the 7,5,4,3 and I just kept loving the irons, shot after shot.

I agree with you, getting fit is the way to go, I use to hit Titleist DCI OS+ back in the late 90's, I shot ok, but because they were off the shelf they were a standard set, I am tall, 6' 3" and sometimes I would pull up and skull the ball, I now have Ping G5's fitted, White Dot +1/2 inch and it made a world of difference, I just bought a set of G15's off ebay, I am waiting for them to get her eon Monday so I can send them off to be resized.

Glad to see you agree, one down many to go! joking of course..

But I am very relieved to get the monkey off my back. It seemed like even though I may have shot well one day it was really luck because at time I got away with the shots that pulled and hooked when I was playing regular shafts...

I am going to the range again tomorrow; I love these clubs.

I got fit 11 years ago, barely remember the details (stiff swing sweed), standard loft and lie (5'11"), wrist to floor-standard, etc. So I confirmed that I'm standard, probably one of the lucky few. The irons off the rack are usually perfect for me-fit wize. In PING nomenclature I'd be "black dot" Doug.

My irons are lengthened by a 1/2" and my wedges are not; I definitely notice this when trying to hit a full wedge shot. I should probably get fitted again because I've grown about 3 in. since I bought my irons. It makes a world of difference.

When I was young getting custom fit golf clubs was not heard of. So I learned to play with standard loft and lie clubs. I would not recommend this for everybody but for me it still works for me. At my age and handicap I don,t really want to change things to much.

Custom Fitting is a must these days. It's not only about the shaft flex and specs but the right club length and lie angle.
Without those two, your shots are a mess....

Very true. Today I shot 82 and last time I played this course I had my older set up and shot 95 mainly because of my shots going left put me in bad positions and plus my putter wasn't what I needed either so I made the switch to the Anser and the VR Splits with S-300's; never looking back.

For me it was a 13 shot difference which is huge.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
