What would be the best use of my time? What all can I do in San Diego for maximum enjoyment in only two days?

I'll be there in mid-september on a Thursday and Friday.

I'm looking for MUST DO suggestions. I've never been there. Obviously there is Torrey Pines, but I highly doubt I'd be able to get on Friday morning unless I get in line at 5 am.

Any other great golf? Great restaurants... Best beach spots... Best night life ...etc.

Thanks in advance!

I was in downtown SD a few weeks back. We went to a Padres game (Awesome stadium) then hit the bars right there. I guess its called the Gaslamp District. Tons of bars, all quite nice. The Tilted Kilt was right next to the stadium, that one was pretty sweet after the game! I honestly don't think you can go wrong downtown if you are looking for fun. Just go anywhere, SD is one heck of a town!

Second for gaslamp. You have to try to be bored in the gaslamp district.

So in September most, if not all, of the courses worth playing in San Diego are doing "major maintenance" before the rainy season. Two days before I arrive - the South Course is shaving the rough back to the bare earth, punching the greens etc...

I figure SD has enough to offer outside of golf, so I won't be taking my clubs. I'll be playing the role of tourist instead.

I've surfed a couple of times in my life. I caught and rode decent waves in Hawaii last year. So my new question is - WHERE would be the most "beginner friendly" place to surf for a morning ?
