Currently, I use the Adams Boxer 3 (20*), 4 (21*), and 5 (23*) hybrids. I was told that I also need to have a 3, 4, and 7 wood as well. Any suggestions?

I suggest that you don't listen to that person anymore! If it were me, I would pick up a 15* 3 wood and a 18* wood or hybrid. I would then drop the 20* hybrid from the bag.

I would drop the 21*, add the 3w, and start looking at filling out my short irons & wedges (your scoring clubs).

Hi Putt Putt,
Don't know why no one has picked up on this but a hybrid isn't a fairway metal. It is an iron. different purpose, different swing. Your fairways are designed for specific distances depending on your swing capability and hybrids are iron replacement clubs. I wouldn't carry a 4 or 5 iron if you are carrying a 4 and 5 hybrid. You see the difference? They are just irons that are suppose to be easier to hit. Personally.... I hook the shit out of them but most folks love em.

You "

need to have " the following: #1.) A reliable long club for teeing off on long holes - most likely a driver or 3-wood #2.) A long fairway club for long par 4s and long par 3s - either a hybrid or long iron fits the bill here. Also used off the tee on tight par 4s. #3.) A 175 yard club (this might be the same club as #2 for some people) #4.) A 150 yard club. #5.) A 100 yard club. #6.) Something for hitting short pitches and for chipping - this may be the same clubs as #4 and #5. #7.) A putter

I don't know who's telling you that junk but what you need depends on your game. I don't currently carry and woods, just a driver and hybrids. There are rounds where a 3 wood on a par 5 would be helpful. But I'm not getting there in 2 with a 3 wood which is only about 25 yards longer than my 19* hybrid anyway so the risk/reward isn't there for me. If I were a better player, I might replace that hybrid with a 3 or 4 wood.

What's in my bag?

I'm pretty sure the average beginner would shoot the same score, if not better, with a 7 piece set. They could carry their bag easier too.

+1 !!!!!! (had to have at least 9 positions)

In fact I can (and most of us can) leave about 7 clubs at home and still play around my hc.

I can't even accurately hit a fairway wood or hybrid. I'll take a 3i over both. I'm losing 10-15 yards max and I'm able to control my shot. I just keep them in my bag for decorative purposes.

Somebody told you to add 3 woods to your 3 hybrids? Wow, that's nuts. I mean, how confusing can club selection be? Wouldn't 2 of the hybrids & the 7wd accomplish the same thing? & carrying a 3 & 4 wd would make no sense.

If you have serious troubles flighting an iron, then more wood/hybrids would make more sense i suppose. Otherwise to avoid confusion i'd say choose either the 3 or 4wd, a 3h or 7wd & the 5h. Basically that gives you 3 wood/utility clubs that i would imagine will cover any gap you may find.

Im no expert but.........NEVER, I repeat NEVER take any golf equipment suggestions from this person again! Most of the other posts have explained why. Seems like you could drop the 21 unless it truly fills a distance gap between the 20 and 23.

What iron is a 15* or 18* hybrid replacing? All clubs have the same "purpose" and that is to get the ball in the hole.

Well, my friend, all clubs have a specific purpose. Are you going to tee off on a par 5 with a sand wedge? Hit a 40 yard shot into the green with a driver? The purpose of the game is to get the ball into the hole and that would be difficult to get accomplished if you don't know which club to use and when, wouldn't it? What hybrid would replace a 15 or 18 degree? if you look at the hybrids on the market today, they will have a number and a loft on them. If you look up standard iron lofts, you will see what the lofts are. So, it becomes pretty simple, BUT..... a hybrid club is an iron replacement not a fairway metal replacement. But, if you want to use them as such, you certainly can.

Hybrids are indeed replacing fairway woods. That is why you have 15* and 18* hybrids. To say they are iron replacements only is silly.

There is one "purpose" and that is to get the ball in the hole. If there were specific purposes, you wouldn't be able to use any club from any lie.

    • Have slowly been working on hooding my long irons less. Using a much more neutral grip and a feel of swinging above the waist. This was the 2nd swing today. A clean clip with a 4-iron with what seems like an okay centered pivot and decent balanced finish.
