OK, why the uneasiness around whether no-longer-made-of-wood clubs should be called, say, 3-woods or 3-metals? (Especially by TV commentators)

After all, how many irons are made of iron these days?

"Ernie can get there with a 7-graphite ..."

It's never said.

My suggestion: go back to calling them cleeks, mashies, niblicks, spoons, brassies,
baffies, etc.

It's a 3 wood. It aggravates me when I here Johnny Miller say 3 metal. Like you said, how many irons are still made of iron? Porbably none. It's a 3 WOOD.

A wood is a type of club. An iron is a type of club. A hybrid is like something in between.

What are most new woods, irons, and hybrid heads made from? Metal. Calling any one of them "metals" is strange. Then again, so is Johnny Miller.

You're not related are you?

If I gotta hear about that 63 at Oakmont one more time, I'm ramming a 3-metal through dad's chest.

Seriously no, I get my strangeness from a different family's tree.

Technically, not even the shafts are really graphite, they are carbon composite. Unless you are driving a Ticonderoga....
